Hike Mt. Timpanogos

hiked up at 1 am for sunrise. one word: AMAAAAAZING!

this will be hard on my spine so I need to give it up

I’m adding this to my list to be sure I’m thinking about it, but it’s likely to be at least next summer before I actually go do the hike, for a few reasons.

I’ve tried hiking Timp twice before, several years ago, and didn’t make it all the way up. Before I go again, I need to be in better shape than I am now, and that’s likely to take more than the few weeks of summer that are left this year. I’d also like to take my daughter with me, but I don’t think she’s quite old enough yet.

Hopefully, by the time I do go, I’ll have checked off one of my other goals too, so I’ll be able to take along a better camera than the one I have now :)

It turns out that the other side of the mountain is basically made up of sheer cliffs. I’m sort of rethinking the whole idea of taking my son. Granted, he’ll be safely strapped to either my husband or to me… but still. That and the sun factor and the fact that he’ll be feeling cooped up in a backpack for hours on end so we’ll have to stop a lot… these are all making me wonder if I shouldn’t take him after all. I’m totally going to still go, though, just not sure I’m going to be taking my infant son with us.

I’m gonna start small… walking around a lot w/my son on my back or on front (in a pack/sling/whatever)... then when trails open up again in the spring, I’ll do smaller hikes with him so as he gains weight, I get stronger and gain more stamina until the snow mostly melts off the mountain! I’m making my deadline be the end of September… although if I wait that long he’ll be a year old!
