I am going to Guadalupe Canyon in mexico to a beautiful desert oasis. I went one year ago and didn’t take the time to hike around. I know there’s a waterfall nearby and I’m going on a hike this time.Thank you to my friends for helping me get there.

The Getty View Trail 2 years ago

...is a small, secluded hiking spot right near the (405?) freeway. Right near as in right next to it, actually. Took the day off from class to go hiking with my cousin. We took the bus to the Getty and then walked along the highway (which was not as scary as I thought it’d be) for about 5 min before we got to the trail.

Went around and around up a hill for a mile (acc to the websites) before we hit the fire road. We stayed on that for a bit, but mostly followed the unpaved trail up and down the hills. It was fun seeing the Getty and freeway from further and further up. At one point, we could see Westwood and make out the buildings of our school. It was a fairly relaxing hike and we stopped for lunch on the top of the highest hill and did some meditation.

Then we walked down into Bel Aire and got back on the bus to home, all while planning our next hiking trip. Just need to find another trail near enough to campus (that we can get to by bus!)

Went on an amazing hike yesterday.

After working for my dear friend, Hisham, I was driving thru downtown, just marveling at how gorgeous the day was. Then it hit me, get your ass to Griffith Park!

I started at the bottom of Fern Dell, which is a lovely cultivated walkway with bridges and brooks and all kinds a cool plants. From there, the path meets up with a trail that goes all the way up to the Griffith park Observatory, which, for now, is only accessible by ay of shuttle or the long winding trail I found myself on.

I was so out of shape and had to stop a few times, but thanks to my ipod, and the amazing view that awaited me, I made it to the top.

Needless to say, this made me proud. It was one small goal that I completed no matter how much I wanted to turn around.

Makes me wonder what else I can accomplish.

hiking will take you to amazing places 3 years ago

A hike will take you somewhere you didn’t plan. There is no way to know what it looks like from the top until you get there.
I love it! Hike national parks around the US…they are awesome and full of surprises!

Hiking in Yosemite 3 years ago

    was amazing.

Not only was the view spectacular (of course), but our hiking group went at a decent, steady pace so we didn’t burn out quickly. We went to a couple different places, but it was not so much the destination of the hike as the places we hit along the trail that counted. We explored a few caves and stopped at many “scenic” sites, like the tree that was formerly a tunnel for car travel, Mirror Lake, and the unknown (to outsiders) OhMyGod Rock.

Hiking to OMG Rock was probably the hardest as it decided to snow that day. We were all dressed lightly to prepare for the strenous hike, but instead, we all froze with our lack of layering. At least i had my snow jacket on + gloves + hat + scarf + sunglasses. We stopped a fwe times because we got too cold or tired or hungry and the road was a bit slippery at points.

But we made it up there and the view was worth it, even partially obscured by the whirling snow, and the hiking experience seemed to pay off at least a little just because we made it up there.

I love hiking again, but let’s see if I actually get a chance to do it anymore at home.

    Yosemite tomorrow! 3 years ago

I’m leaving at 7:30 AM on a bus to Yosemite National Park for a week long hiking/etc trip. We won’t be backpacking, but I’m glad because I like my showers and toilets and real beds. =)

I’m excited. Still need to finish packing though. I probably won’t be here for a few days, but I promise to return all cheers given me!

    Shopping update 3 years ago

Finished buying everything I need for the hiking/camping trip I’m going on next week. I’ll be heading up to Yosemite on the 11th and returning on the 16th, so no internet for a week!

But I’ll be back soon, with lots of pictures and probably a new perspective on many of these goals.

It was quite fun to look at all the neat camping gear they have now, and pick what I wanted to actually buy and bring with me. I’m excited for the trip—I haven’t hiked in years.

    It's been a while 3 years ago

since I last went on a hiking trip. A few years, actually. I love going out into nature and seeing the sights, but it is a hassle to get all the equipment and drive up to Eaton Canyon.

But I will be hiking through a bit of Yosemite in a few weeks with a couple of friends. Camping trip for about a week. That should be fun. And I plan to hike more this year than I have for the past five years. (It isn’t hard—I just have to go on 2 hikes and I’ve got it.)

I’ll check off this goal as “done” once I take that second hike.
