I haven’t been watching enough movies last few years. Almost none at all. Need to change that.

Not sure when I will consider this done. The goal is to watch at least one new movie every week. I will edit in the names of and small comments on every one of them in this entry.

Week 1

Threads
Disturbing. Definitely one of those everybody should see. However, having never lived in the times when the nuclear war seemed imminent, I was not moved as much.

Avengers
I did not expect this, but I liked it very much! I’m not a great fan of comics though – I do read them, but only the great and famous, as for example V for Vendetta, or Watchmen. Speaking of which, Watchmen still are the greatest movie version of a comic book!

Week 2

Schindler’s List
Finally I’ve watched this one. Not only a great movie (such a good role for Neeson!), but reading about the actual life of this man, actually possibly a very accurate depiction of the reality.

Taxi Driver
I must say, only after the ending credits I actually realized that I liked this a lot, in a way. Great music!

Week 3

12 Angry Men
This is a classic one and I can see why.

The Usual Suspects
I love Kevin Spacey, so that was an instant plus. Very decent movie, I’ve heard it gets better if you watch it twice, so I might give it a go at some point.

The Raid: Redemption

A VERY solid movie. Just action, a bit of talking, but mostly just action.

L’Animal
I’ve never seen many Belmondo movies and that’s a shame, because I get the feeling I’d like them very much. This one did not do the trick for me though.

Memento
I love almost all Nolan’s movies, this one gets in the list in between Prestige and Inception. Definitely a movie to watch if you want some proper mindfuck.

Harakiri
I’d like to like this movie as much as people do. I did enjoy it, but it didn’t struck me as particularly interesting.

Week 4

This Must Be The Place
This is a movie you’ve gotta see for yourself and decide. Although the IMDB rating isn’t very high (6.7 now), it’s got some great minimalistic acting (Sean Penn as Cheyenne), and great lines and dialogues. Plus a good, Talking Heads-based soundtrack. Definitely not such a mediocre movie as the rating would suggest.

Salmon Fishing In The Yemen
I was introduced to this as one of the good romantic movies. I do like Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt was just delicious. But overall, this is just one of the slightly better chick flicks. However, there is one reason you might want to see this (unless you like these movies, that is), and that’s Sheikh Muhammed.

Vanishing Point
Loved it. 1970 dodge challenger, naked girl on a motorbike, two hours of racing with police and other drivers. Not mentioning the main guy, Kowalski, who’s just great.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
A very pleasant anime!

The Dark Knight Rises
I don’t know. I really liked Batman’s comeback. I love Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. I loved Michael Caine (as usual), Morgan Freeman, even Bane was a pleasant surprise. But the story, oh the story. If there were no expectations and no internet hype, it’d be fine. But like this I just don’t understand what is all the fuss about.

Week 5

Oldboy
Not sure what to say about this. I figured what the twist will be halfway through the movie, which was slightly annoying, but the ending, although expected, still worked for me. Worth watching.

Week 6ish
Not really 6th week, but I’ve been in the mountains for weeks, not much cinema going on there. The only movies I’ve managed to see, incidentally, were Arnold Schwarzenegger ones.

Conan The Barbarian
Well, it’s an okay movie. Not much Arnie action in terms of quotes, funny pronounciation, or just generally all the things I love about movies such as Kindergarten Cop. But as a movie, it’s fine, especially James Earl Jones is a great villain.

Twins
Much more packed with the proper Arnie fun. One example for all10 months ago
