AwakenMe is taking things one step at a time
thinking about this since I wrote the last entry. I have been able to cut a lot of refined sugar out of my diet but still find it troublsome that there are a lot of foods I can’t eat on this way of life. I am kind of broke and cant afford to eat all veggies, and lean meats though I wish I could. A few foods with refined sugar are just easier and cheap for me. Like cereal. It doesn’t have tons of sugar in it, but has some and haven’t had any for awhile, usually just skipping breakfast. Also, I am eating too much rice since it does not have sugar and am not sure how much longer I can last. I will make this done as I feel that eating a bowl of cereal isn’t going to hamper my health and I am proud that I have stopped eating junk like ice cream and cookies and have lost weight already to show for it.
What I am going to do to maintain the idea of this goal is to make it a goal not to eat sweets. I want my breakfast back and am not going to go the sweetner route to do so. So over all I am glad I have been able to do this and feel a lot better and less sluggish then I use to! But this isn't not something I can keep for the long term until I graduate I am sure lol.

So since that entry I have ate waay less sugar. Its making me feel happier and my waistline is even shrinking. I don’t tend to eat foods with sugar added unless its natural. I did have rice pudding once, as well as a coke when I got that by accident instead of coke zero (both bad I know, but I generally dont like normal coke, its funny tasting), and some juice. But nothing big like cookies or other baked goods which are my biggest weakness!

This is a very hard thing to do, temptation is everywhere and I have no will power. I also have learned that sugar is in a billion things I would have never expected it to be in little code names, aka pretty much anything with ‘ose’ at the end. I even found it in my the sliced turkey for sandwhiches I ate. I was slightly surprised by that. Just goes to show your better off sticking to natural foods, which can be ridiculously expensive on my student budget :( So this will be an ongoing process. With summer coming, which means working full time for the summer might help this goal!

Sugar Blues is an oldy but a goodie. I have another book on sugar I can post once I get back home from holiday.
The best thing I have found so far is to keep tangelos/oranges/bananas/apples/carrots in my house to nible on when I get a craving for chocolate/sweets/ice cream/gelato/etc
I am trying to cut out coffee as well and drink teechinno (sp?) more but am using agave syrup as a sweetener for now…and it’s good!

This is crazy hard because refined sugar is in SO MANY THINGS. Like, the way i’m going to go about doing this is by only eating foods that i know are whole. Ahh. But when you go cold turkey the cravings usually stop a lot faster than you think. But i’m also giving up dairy for a couple weeks so i can reintroduce it into my diet and see how it really affects me, so i’vebeen drinking soy milk (but my body doesn’t digest soy all that well) and there is refined sugar in that. But like have you guys used agave nectar or baley malt or any of those things as sweeteners?

I haven’t had any sugary drinks in the past week so I will mark this finished! I only started drinking lemonade and ginger ale a few months ago when I changed jobs. glad I got rid of that habit before it stuck. it is not healthy.

I find it’s easiest if I don’t leave my house.

This means cane sugar, and probably a lot of other stuff. It does not mean fruit.
