How to read one book per month"Addicting."
How I did it: It's June and I'm up to 11 books so far this year, so I'm calling this goal "accomplished." Lessons & tips: Keep the ball rolling. Once you start, try not to go more than a day or so without reading at least a few pages. My problems always start when I put a book down for too long, and it becomes a big deal to pick it up again. Resources: www.librivox.org has volunteer-read audio books in the public domain, which means it's mostly classics. It's great for passing the time while I'm working on the house, going for a walk at lunch, or in the car. |

How I did it: Find an author you really like and grab as many books from them as you can, read once per day and you'll be reading about a book per month. I'm in the habit now so I'm marking this as done :) Read how I did it…

gigij is getting better but not there yet
because I’m really picky – the last two books I’ve tried to read I’ve given up 1/2 – 3/4 way through. Wasting a lot of money on crap books. My faves are: English Patient, Fight Club, Wuthering Heights and the classics. Just finished The Secret Life of Bees which wasn’t bad. Any suggestions are welcomed!!

The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom. Another one that barely counts as a work of literature, but I’m including it.
I’m wondering at what point I can consider this goal accomplished. Do I need to go a whole year or is the point more that I’m in the habit now?

Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy. In the interest of full disclosure, this was an audio book, and although I’ve heard arguments to the contrary, personally I think that counts.

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. I forgot to post about this, although I finished it last week. I already started and gave up on Catch-22. I’ve been reading a bit less recently, I feel like I haven’t had any time other than right before bed, but I’m still at least picking up a book pretty much every day, which keeps me in the habit.

I’m really sailing now! Just finished “A Spy in the House of Love” by Anais Nin, although that barely counts since it’s only like 140 pages. Maybe this will help later on when I decide to read something huge like The Bleak House, which I just bought yesterday.
This goal has really gotten me addicted to reading, which makes me really happy.

Just finished The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. Pretty interesting, very girly, a relatively quick read.
So far this goal has been really good for me. I’m totally excited about reading now, and these days I can’t wait to get into bed at night and get back into my book, but I’m also trying to get more into reading as a substitute for TV, at random times during the day.

Apathy and Other Small Victories by Paul Neilan. Not great, but at least I finished.

I finished “Mayflower” by Nathanial Philbrick.
Since I rarely make time to read a book, I’ve started listening to audio books while working (since I can design and listen to it at the same time). I’ve listened to one full book, Julie & Julia, and loved the accomplishment of finishing it. Granted, I would love to be able to flip the pages of a real book but this will work for now…
