be closer to my sisters

The 4 of us did the Race for the Cure on Saturday, along with 43,000 other people in our town. It was crazy! We had a good time. I’m glad we did it together.

I have three sisters, one that lives close by and two that live across the country. I wish I could get to know them better and be closer to them. They’re all older than me and I never really got a chance to grow up with any of them.

I have never doubted how wonderful my sisters are, and these past few weeks have really proven to me how lucky I am. They are there when I need them, every single time, no questions asked.

I hope that someday I’ll be able to be there for them like they are for me, should they ever need it.

Our annual Sisters’ Day is coming up. We’re going out on March 4th, which will be lots of fun. Jordan wants to go bowling and I’ll probably cave and go with it. I hate bowling, but the 3 of them love it, so whatever. It’s always fun with them even though I suck. I still have to go find gifts for them. Maybe I can find something in Chicago.

My sisters and I have always had the policy that a new boyfriend will be introduced to the other 3 sisters one at a time. We’re kind of overwhelming at once, and our thought was that it would scare them off. Someone made a very valid point to us, that if they couldn’t handle us all together, they probably weren’t worth having in the first place. To test this theory, I introduced my new boyfriend to all 3 of them at once. It went really well! Now all of my sisters know him, and he’s cool enough to hang with all of us at once. He’s a keeper.

I am the suck at bowling. Seriously, I’m awful, and I don’t really even enjoy it. That being said, 2 of my sisters are all about bowling, so I give in from time to time so we can go together. We went tonight, and I, being the terrible bowler that I am, provided much entertainment to them with my lack of skill. We had a good time.

I just wish my baby sister had been there. I don’t see her very often because she’s so busy. I’ll be glad when her life is more calm and we can see her more.

I talked with my mom and one of my sisters late into the night the other evening. My mom brought up a really good point. My sisters and I are really close, but sometimes we’re extraordinarily mean to each other. She said “I think everyone in this family could take a lesson on being nicer” and I agree with her. I’m completely guilty of this. Some of the things I say to my sisters I would never dream of saying to other people. I guess it comes down to the safety net I have in them. I know that even if I’m completely acrid to them on any given day, they’re still going to love me.

But wouldn’t it be nice if they only had to love me because I was wonderful to them?

When I said I wanted to be closer to my sisters, I meant emotionally, but I guess physically works, too. 2 of my sisters live together in an apartment complex, and I’m thinking of moving the the same neighborhood. We’ll see though. My baby sister is still living at my parents’ house, so it would be a while before we were all together. Not that we’re apart, but you know what I mean.

I’ve told my boss a lot about my sisters, and there’s a picture of all 4 of us on my desk. She (my boss) doesn’t have any sisters, and she thinks it’s really cool that my sisters and I are so close, so she wants to have lunch with us all. How fun is that?!

My three sisters and I take our dad out for Father’s Day each year. We just go somewhere for lunch, but he’s said many times that it’s about the most fun thing he does all year. You see, my sisters and I are really close, and we’ve all got really loud personalities. He says he likes it so much because he can just sit back and listen to us all talk and crack up. I can’t wait!

There’s nothing quite like a holiday to bring my sisters and I together. If nothing else, it’s a lot of fun to sit around and bitch about other family members. :)

God I love those girls.
