I struggled with it for years thinking I ‘wasn’t good enough’. What I’d say to anyone doing it, or thinking about it, is…forget ‘good enough’! Just pick the thing up and have a go! It was only after I became willing to play less than perfectly that I started having the confidence to play at all. It’s been over two and a half years now, and I’m still learning – but I’m getting to the stage where I’m willing to go play in public now. Definitely worth doing.
Right now, I can play guitar decently. I can’t pluck fast or do any fancy “widdlee widdlee wooow” solos (since that really isn’t my thing), but I do chords and some novice plucking or solos that sound nice :)
My dad taught me the basic “easy” chords, then I just relied on myself from there. After my fingers toughened up, I searched the internet for bar chords, power chords, etc.
So far, I’ve been playing the guitar for about 4 years. I think my ability to play the piano helped me a lot when I was learning guitar.
Well, I’m not as bored anymore and really love music and the guitar is awesome since you play anything on it! I can say this was definitely worth my time. :)
I can play acoustic a little bit, but not decently.
my dad taught himself to play, so everytime I visit him, I ask him for help since Im trying to teach myself too. My mom, however, trashes me everytime she hears me. She’s always telling me that she wishes I would do something worth while and I sound the same as I did when I started. I want to play so good and loud that she and no one else will ever doubt what Im capable of again.
On a happier note, I also want to meet my most favoritest band, Relient K, and play along side them one day.
Peace to all the guitar or guitar-aspiring players. you rule.
