How to learn to apply makeup by Eau des Merveilles

"I got a makeup lesson from a world famous makeup artist"

How I did it: I was in the local department store and saw a sign saying a famous makeup artist from New York was coming to town to do how-to makeup sessions.

I signed up.

On the day of the session, we went into a little conference room (it was the flagship store so had these) and each person attending had their own makeup counter girl and the artist moved from table to table to inspect us. We all looked great.

Lessons & tips: Keep your eyes open at your local makeup counter. The ladies there often give free makeovers too and will teach you how to do it.

BTW for my session with the famous lady,  I had to buy a minimum of $50 in Estee Lauder cosmetics.

I wish I could remember her name, was a few years ago

How I did it: I think that using the right brushes is key!! I also learned that every make-up artist has their preferred medium, some like liquid foundation, some mineral make up, some air brush.     It’s alright now..
    I watch and subscribe to Make-up gurus now. I’ve learned alot. Although I noticed I can’t wear makeup on my face and only eye make-up It’s kinda sad. so now I just cleanse my face often and apply face stuff<3.

    I’ve become pretty serious with my makeup. I finally decided to buy Make Up Forever HD foundation because it really is just so light. No transfer of color all over the place like I had with True Match. I hated that. And I got the Smashbox Photofinish primer to go with it. I also decided that pencil eyeliner is not for me so I moved on to Stila Smudge Pots. I love it, although I think I might need to explore my brushes. I have E.L.F brushes but I don’t particularly like them so I might bite the bullet and start investing MAC. Ugh! MAC cosmetics leave the same bad taste in my mouth as MAC computers!

    Almost ready to cross this off my list. Thanks to panacea81 on Youtube, I have learned many techniques and created some pretty nice looks over the past couple of weeks. I got some silver/dark grey eyeshadows which I love and I’ve really made some improvements in terms of applying eyeliner. Once I get another eyeshadow kit and create a few more looks, I’ll be ready to cross this off. Maybe I’ll go to MAC today and invest in the Hello Kitty set. (I’ve been wanting it for about a month now…)

    Well, it just takes practice. Also, there are a lot of lovely ladies and gentlemen on youtube that make EXTREMELY helpful videos on the art of applying makeup. Once you know how to do it, I feel like it becomes fun. Your face is a canves and you can make yourself look any way you want to! Its great to play with fun colors, but generally I just stick to neutrals. Anyways, learning to apply makeup has truley helped me enhance my features and made me feel SUPER confident and beautiful.

    This is part of my general self impovement goals so that my outside looks like my consciousness feels. I like makeup, heels and tailored clothes. However, I hardly wear makeup, I’m just getting used to heels and Tshirts and jeans are my wardrobe staples. It makes me unhappy to not look the way I feel so, now that I can afford it, I’m going to change my style.

    I finally went to Sephora and got help to find a good foundation (MUFE HD #173). I didn’t buy it yet but I got a sample to play with until I make up my mind. I also bought some eyeshadows (lots of neutrals until I get the hang of this) and I try to put on mascara and eyeliner every time I leave the house.

    Youtube has been my friend through this – so many people ready to share their style and knowledge. Hopefully, this goal will be done by the end of 2009. But I’m on my way and I feel good!!
