in my voice lessons. Now I can tell that my voice (breath) has been getting more stable.
How to sing an aria
How I did it: I LOVE to sing! But I never thought I was that good. Yes, I mean I had done a lot of it in my teens but I was still vocally behind many in my age range. It wasn't until a few months ago I was well into some voice lessons that I had attended A Sarah Brightman concert. Boy, watching her was one of the biggest kicks in the stomach. She was breathtaking and beautiful, reaching notes I'd only dream of! For a few days afterward, I went about feeling very sorry for myself, almost wanting to quit lessons because I knew that there are indeed people many many many times better than I will ever be. It wasn't fair that some people were naturally born with showmanship and talent in their veins. However, as the new year came and gone, I realized that I had to stop being such an envious jealous person! After a crazy scheduling incident with my work, I then learned that I could no longer take lessons at the school I was already attending. There was even no hope in changing days and times my lessons were on because they were fully booked! I'd have to be placed on a waiting list if I wanted certain days and times. Frustratedly, I had to find another place to study. I remembered that I was given a phone number by a co-worker who sang with a local opera company. She told me that there were a few more spaces for their training program and that I should look into nabbing one of them. After thinking it over, I decided to give it a shot. The worst they could say was "No" and maybe give a few pointers on what I can to better my voice. I went in, I auditioned, and I was accepted on the spot! I was told that my voice was too beautiful to go untrained. I have since been learning all the classics that most singers start with, Caro Mio Ben, Nel Cor Piu Non Mi Sento, To Lo Sai, Lasciatemi Morire, Etc. (Aka the 24 Italian Songs and Arias book) I have also appeared in the chorus of Carmen and will soon start HMS Pinafore.
Lessons & tips: NEVER second guess yourself. If it's truly in your heart, work until you get it. And when you get it - work harder to keep it!

Rouenpucelle is praying for her puppy
One of my most interesting experiences was singing “L’amour est un oiseau rebelle,” a sexy song from Carmen, up on a teeny-tiny, unstable platform in near complete darkness, way above the audience’s heads, accompanied by a little keyboard. Brings new meaning to the term “stage fright!”
