I’m going to be doing this in the summer. I want to do an overnight hike, and stay at the hostel in Caledonia. I live pretty close to Caledonia, its only about 45 minutes away, but I still think it would be cool. The hostel up there is in the woods and is a very old house by a lake. I’m really, really looking forward to this!

How I did it: when i was around 18 my year in school went on a school trip to paris and obviously we were on a very tight budget so our school found possibly one of the cheapest accomadations possible so we stayed in a hostel. there was 8 people per bedroom we barely got a wink of sleep and on the last night nobody wanted to sleep in my room and then i had to go into the room next door and sleep it was a bit embarassing i also hated having people rumma… Read how I did it…

I suppose everyone’s experience varies but the hostel I stayed in was dirty, incredibly old (should not have passed safety inspection old) and not secure. We could open our room locks with our hands and other people staying in the hostel didn’t seem to understand locking doors to the outside kept the vagrants out.
Definitely going to give it another shot, but the first time I did it was horrible.

I’ve lived in one, for a couple of years in Vancouver. It had its ups and downs, but the past was the past.

In a few days I’m traveling to Montreal and I will be staying in a hostel. Then I’m off to New York and I’ll be staying in one again.

i spent the past weekend in a hostel in london, on. the place was really clean and friendly. id definitely recommend staying in a hostel because you meet a bunch of interesting new people from all around the world and it’s cheap. i paid $50 for 2 nights. i want to do it again for sure :)
i have stayed in hostels in tasmania, adelaide and cairns. it’s a great way to meet people and some of the hostels i’ve come across are much nicer than hotels.
Melony Louise is wondering, what next?
I stayed at the Redwoods Hostel over a weekend in October with my mom. The view out our room window was the ocean, which was beautiful when the sunrise light would wake you. The front yard was a freaking beach for God’s sake.
If I had more friends, I would love to rent out the entire hostel for a weekend during the summer and have a beach party. Or a bonfire. Or something involving that gorgeous beach we were on.
[The picture attached is one of the beach. See, gorgeous!]
