How to start a website"This is something that needs to be chronicled!"
How I did it: I knew I had to do it, but I wasn't sure how. I began by taking pictures and some weren't so great. But when I passed that way again, I knew how I'd improve it and take another. Now to present it. I knew I wanted to keep it simple, just cut and paste HTML, captioned pictures. Maintain the same layout, page to page. And this is it! http://www.geocities.com/warrentalb/Bold_New_Horizons.html Lessons & tips: Just start with something. Mine's on geocities. Just start and build on it. Make it real, make it yours. Learn some HTML, decide on your color scheme and stay with it. Resources: There's no need to create a web site from HTML, you can blog, and create things all over the WWW. Google TRUCKBUDDY and you'll come up with a lot of stuff I've done. |

How I did it: There are two things I think really make the difference for you if you are new to building a website. First, you need to use a host that makes it really easy to edit your site. Some company like SimplWeb. Second, you want that host that has tons of info for you so you can always be moving ahead with your site. As you master one part, you can go on to the next challenge. They should have lots of articles and tutoria… Read how I did it…
How I did it: Started up a blog at wordpress and have been posting everyday from there. Thought about what I am interested in so it doesn't seem a chore and took it from there. Read how I did it…
rockerrae hasn't been on 43 things in a LONG time!
How I did it: www.freewebs.com really easy and funI just signed up tottaly free hence the name FREEwebs. You can also pay money for ur own domain name so instead of being www.freewebs.com/INSERT YOUR WEBSITE NAME HERE It would be www.yourdomainnamhere.com Read how I did it…

Lia is packing for college.
Okay, so…tonight I completed step one of the website process: buying a domain name!
I bought it off of godaddy.com…which is a very reliable source. My 2-year domain name cost a little over $20, which is not much at all in the grand scheme of things. What I didn’t sign up for at godaddy.com was web hosting, which is the true ingredient of getting things ON a webpage. I didn’t do this because the hosting was an extra $100, something I did not want to spend money on right away if there are other alternatives available. I spent a good hour or two setting up accounts on strange free webhosting sites, but all the reliable ones have very low file storage (150 Megabytes!), and the better-looking ones cannot send me confirmation e-mails “at this time” and read my domain-on multiple accounts—as a ,com … not a .com!!! Commas?! I really did press the period key! Also, I downloaded Mozilla SeaMonkey, which is a free internet suite that has an extremely basic wysiwyg editor called Composer. With my Photoshop knowledge, I am sure I can make such an editor work for me.
These are some of the remaining steps:
STEP TWO: Find a decent (free) web host.
You can’t get everything for free nowadays, but I still am going to try! My website isn’t going to be used for professional use in the near future, so I don’t believe that a novice like myself should be paying for hosting before I know what I’m doing. So tomorrow I am going to search some more for a good free host. Photobucket and Mediafire are good file storages, but do they also host .html information?
STEP ZERO: Figure out what I’m going to use my site for.
Yes, a zero step! This may sound dumb, but I bought my domain name just because I had “Start a website” as a goal on my 43 things. Now I need to decide what to do with my website. I won’t be able to do anything before I find and secure a web hosting service, but I am able to decide what to do and put on my website. I am leaning toward something like a webcomic/goods store/blog type of website. This is something else I need to do tomorrow: figure out what I am going to use my site for.
STEP THREE: Design my site.
Basically I need to sketch out my site’s layout and color scheme. After I decide on such matters, I will have a lot of photoshopping to do. But this is for the future, for after I’ve secured a host and figured out what I want to do with my site.
:)
It is just a site on google with a pre-exsisting layout, but it doesn’t need to be complicated. I’m just making a personal art gallery. I’m excited!
I want to launch a website to enable me to interact with other musicians, people in the arts to collaborate
Let’s face it, setting up a blog is a hobby, and yes some lucky guys make a living out of their hobbies (maybe we could include programmers on that list?).
But to make a site, and I mean a true website that is useful, neat, innovative, fresh, neatly designed, and so on… Well, It takes a LOT of work, and I just cant get enough of that elusive stuff.
So someday I’ll have the best site out there, flashy light, and over all: Useful.

I have been programming sites for over 10 years now. I’m totally amazed at how far everything has come. Once you get the basic site up, most things are as easy as sending an email.
I think most anyone can do it. Do be afraid to give it a try.
BruiseLee is actually cleaning/organizing her room
I want to make things + sell them online. Use it to showcase the many sides of my creativity.
jesuismir is going to clean.
I’ve been wanting to do this, but I’ve been soooo lazy! haha. I need to be like those programmers: working at cafes and such – NOT at home! haha.. yes, I will do this soon!
I plan on opening a website to display my artwork in a professional way, probably in late 2009
