It’s hard to get samples when you don’t have real clients. You need money coming in to pay for the samples & the rent.

stopping time 3 years ago

for several years, I’ve toyed with the idea of photography. The problem is, I’m one of those people that wants to DO something, not wanting to take the time to learn how to do something. So I have all these unwritten goals in the back of my head that I’ve never done anything about. I’m currently reading “Smart Couples Finish Rich” and in the chapter on goal setting, the author (whose name completely escapes me and I’m not in the mood to walk back to the bedroom to look) says “write down your goals and in the next 48 hours, do something towards achieving that goal.” So I’m looking up photography classes at the local college, RIGHT NOW.

I love the idea of being an freelance photographer. I can still remember the variety of props that the photographer that took my senior pictures (in 1987) had all around the studio in his house and outside in his backyard.

Today I’m taking the kids up on the mountain with a “one-use” camera and we’re going to burn it up taking “school” pictures. Homeschoolers don’t have the advantage of that neat package of pictures for the incredibly low price of $5.95, complete with an 8×10, 2 5×7’s, 8 wallets and a gazillion of those half wallet sizes for sharing with friends. I think one of my sub-goals (for lack of a better word) would be to build a successful business and be in a financial position where I could afford to take the loss and offer homeschooling families that great price that public/private school families get from the photographers that contract with the school systems.

Finding Photography 3 years ago

I have been accepted to an art school in Arizona.

The only thing standing in the way is gathering the things I need and shipping them out there, 2000 miles away. Oh, and coming up with the money. Loans look like the way of affording things as of September 2006. Oh joy!

I need basic household stuff, though. And kitchenwares. I have everything I need to live a life of a dependent student-my books, cds, and art stuff. My blankets and pillows are mine, but the bed I sleep on is not. I will have a computer supplied by the school a Mac, yay! No more PC! Blech! But everything else I kind of need. Hopefully there will be some good yard sales this spring and summer. Ready to bargain hunt? I’m Scottish, I think its time to dig up my bargaining roots and pinch some pennies.

Working on this goal 3 years ago

I am working on this goal and I feel like it might become a reality. My business partner, Eric, and I set the price this weekend. I have been working on a flyer and we are getting responses from his students. We would like 7 students +or- 2.

It’s a lot of work and we both have decided we are not going to get our time investment paid for with this first workshop.

we also set the date for a deposit so on March 15 we should know if we have any students!
