I just took a look at my school schedule and the Games will be right at the start of my second semester. Looks like I won’t be able to go :( 5 years ago

How I did it: Watching Torino 2006 I knew I was going to do everything in my power to come to Vancouver 2010. I created a budget plan ($1,500- I'm Dutch and a total bargain hunter) and narrowed it down to about $31 a month. Suddenly, it became one of the most accessible goals I'd ever created! There were times when I didn't have a job or needed the money for tuition or other necessities- I am a college student after all- but for the most part I was able to set the money aside each month.
I won't pretend that it wasn't difficult setting that money aside sometimes, or that I didn't get discouraged. It is a royal pain figuring out the ticketing system for events in other countries, even if they do speak the same language. I tried for tickets in the lottery system and didn't get any as an out-of-country spectator in a party of 1 (yes, I am at the games alone!), and when the website was opened up to a first come/first served to all registered customers the site was so overloaded with people my orders weren't confirmed until weeks later when I received out of the blue calls from CoSport. Finding out the exact dates and times of ticket sales and hotel information and event information is hard work but it is so beyond worth it if your heart is in it.
I had the privilege of coming to Vancouver in 2008 as a graduation gift and knew I was going to have a ball here. I also ended up being lucky enough to have a friend who moved to North Van that I could stay with, saving me a huge chunk of change. It all has worked out perfectly! Read how I did it… 3 years ago
