Can’t believe I still haven’t done that yet. Father’s done it, grandfather’s done it… heck, if anything, it’s a family matter!

Canoe Camping is also referred to as portaging. A Portage is the french name for the place where you need to carry your canoe from one lake to another. It comes from the Voyageurs and fur traders of early Canada who carried their canoes from lake to lake and river to river as they paddled from Montréal to Winnipeg. A distance of approximately 3000km.
I try to go out “portaging” or canoe camping at least one or two weeks every year. Mostly in Algonquin park or northern Ontario and Quebec. It is perhaps the best stress relief in the world. All you can think of is getting from point A to point B, eating, and sleeping. Every other issue in your life becomes secondary.
I would highly recomend it, particularly in the BWCA. It is gorgeuous there. Canoe trips are so much fun. Just make sure you know what you’re doing, don’t get in any trouble.
