Last time I was there I had seen a couple of gifts perfect for a friend of mine in NZ who likes to revisit her childhood so I decided to go one more time. It turned out to be Christmas Eve, after a trek round the Capital’s shops looking for last minutes gifts for my kids, weary and deflated finding nothing to my liking I hopped on the underground looking forward to finding what I wanted and soaking up some last minute festive cheer. I knew exactly where the stalls were with the gifts I wanted to buy almost next to each other but still I lingered among the happy crowd walking from stall to stall with their plastic cups of mulled wine leaving an aromatic tastalising scent of warmth in the atmosphere around them. With thoughts of home I ventured over to the little stalls where my minature book of The Little Prince and a wooden keepsake of the Nutcracker were proudly standing on display just waiting to keep me company on the journey home. 4 months ago

My daughter has been talking about the German Christmas market for weeks now, she wanted to go in November when it first hit the streets but November doesn’t feel very Chrismasey to me! Now the clock has chimed December i asked her if she would like to go, today. ‘Yes’ she said looking all surprised and off we set with the sun in the sky and the frost on the ground.
She took the directive lead and before long the litte wooden chalets came into view admist the lights and music and the smell of mulled wine. Almost like stepping back into time with the pictures and wooden boxes, russian dolls and fairy lights, wooden ties were back again and so were the smokey and sweet. My daughter took her time looking at everything on show taking a liking to pretty flower shaped candles and fairies cocooned in a beautiful snow glass home. We wrinkled our noses at the ostrich meat and kangaroo burgers and ooooed and mmmmmed at the sweet red velvet cupcakes alongside hot chocolates with lashings of cream and a flake to top it all off.
As the day turned to dusk and the cold set in we were both swept away on thoughts of .. we might just go again. 5 months ago

Last year a friend and I were arranging a meet up and he asked if there was anywhere specific i’d like to go .. ‘oh theres a German Christmas market i’d quite like to see’ said i .. so we met up in the capital one cold December day and headed for Waterloo. The market was set up alongside the Southbank of the River Thames, boy was it cold but wrapped up in fluffiness with the company of a friend sharing the warmth of coffee whilst surveying cute little chalets framed in colourful lanterns with gifts and treats it was a quality time where the cold soon went un-noticed.
I’d been having trouble figuring what to buy my son who seemed to have everything and absolutely no ideas but here i found a stall with photographed letters and suddenly i had a set of pictures all nicely framed with his name on it. There were wooden boxes where you could hide your coins before figuring out how to open it with no lock and key very his sort of thing so he got one of these too.
There were russian dolls and fairy lights and wooden ties and scents of smokey and sweet and coming to the end of the walkway an array of graffitti giving me my own set of pictures to photograph some memories of my day.
I shared the stories of my enjoyable time with friends and family till my daughter piped up ‘i want to go too’ .. unfortunately by the time i got the chance to spend the day up in the capital with my daughter Christmas was just gone and so was the market so i said ‘nevermind we’ll go together next year’ .. suddenly its next year, the memories are still warm and the promise still fresh between my lips, i’ll go again this year with the wonderment that is my daughter creating starry memories of a story thats been foretold. 5 months ago

From 26 November till 23 December 2012 the Christmas Market in Frankfurt will be on. I have to make sure not to miss out on it this time! Less than 2 months to go! 7 months ago

It won’t happen this year. I had so many other traveling plans and this week I am also going to Italy and I just don’t have the strength for one more long plain ride to Frankfurt. If I will have I will do it, otherwise it has to wait till next year. But anyway, if I don’t do it now, it will wait! :) 17 months ago

I have already went to Vienna for the Christmas market, but this year I’m planning to go to the real deal! The biggest one in Germany is in Frankfurt. It will start from 23rd of November and it’s on Romer that beautiful square in the Center of Frankfurt. Looking forward to it, the athmosphere must be so lovely there! 19 months ago
