Why?
Recently, I’ve realized that too much of my own life I have over-valued strength. I may yet adopt a goal related to nurturing the growth of my daughters, but I am taking this one off of my list.

Rose left this morning for three weeks in Costa Rica.

Rose is now signed up to go to Costa Rica. She’s also doing band camp a week later in Spokane, and may even drive there herself (!)
Emma has requested glass blowing lessons for the summer. I’m now looking at these.

Rose is interested in a community service program in Costa Rica. We’re considering sending her.

Seven years ago, Emma had her first role on the stage, as a sleeping squirrel.
The last two weekends, Rose and Emma had major roles in a production of the Wizard of Oz: Rose was the Wicked Witch, and Emma was the Cowardly Lion.
While Rose has had some decent supporting roles, this is the first time either one had such a major role in any play. Rose had such a presence, every time she left the stage, spontaneous applause broke out. Small children were terrified. And Emma sang and danced marvelously.
They have come so far in theater – I am really proud of both of them.

I guess if I am serious about this goal, I should not strangulate a particular girl between now and when she reaches true womanhood.

I was skipping out of the 48th LD Democratic party meeting early (wanted to ride my bike home before it got dark), when I encountered someone from the Darcy Burner campaign coming in rather late to the meeting.
I asked him if he knew Rose. “You mean Rose Petersky? She’s” I wish I could remember the adjective he used – outstanding? astounding? amazing? – but he immediately went off his nut. “She built our donor database from the ground up! It made our calls 33% more efficient!”
I remember Rose saying that the office was so pleased with her work with the database. But it was cool to hear someone else sing her praises.
