How I did it: I worked extremely hard, my studies were my life and nothing else meant more to me at that time. Three thoughts were always with me, 1. I am not going to sit here and watch myself fail, I am going to do whatever it takes to reach this goal.

2. Studies mean more to me than anything in this world and my hard work reflects this

3. You can work really hard and still fail, but all that really matters is that you tried. When you work hard it builds character, and building character is valued more than achieving any goal!

Lessons & tips: Remember that you are going to go through some hard times..but it is your ability to handle those hard times that will seperate you from the crowd.

Also..do your studies in Australia and the whole process can go alot quicker..I was able to start uni at 17,do my undergrad and do honours rather than masters because my GPA was high..This then allowed me to get a phd scholarship at 21 years of age..

Although now after 6 months and a conference, I am deferring my phd cause I need a break and my supervisor lost his job.

How I did it: I looked up universities (in the UK) that had relevant graduate programmes, contacted potential supervisors, put together draft proposals for their review and comments, revised the proposals and then applied formally.  The hardest thing was getting/putting together the funding -- that's what made it take such a long time.     I have finished my first year and I’m really excited about the second year. My husband and I have no money and have maxed out our loans, but we’re doing something we love and want to continue pursuing our dreams of graduating with doctoral degrees. This was worth it!
