Learn Flash

Okay, my first non-class Flash file is live now, on PCNW’s home page. It’s just a slideshow with titles, no actionscript, copied in essence directly from the pre-existing version. I just swapped in new photos and titles. But there was no source code for the previous version, so I did have to say “I know how that was probably done” and then do it. I can’t call it “reverse engineering” without there being any code involved. Still, the first Flash project I have in mind for one of my sites is a photo portfolio browser using remotely-accessed photos. Add a few web service functions into my toolbox and I’m pretty much where I was hoping to be when I took that Flash class in the spring. Since I basically meant “understand how Flash files are created” when I added this goal, I’m going to mark it as done.

6 years ago when I was in the first year of my multimedia college, a lot of my teachers were ranting about Flash and were not convinced by it’s possibilities. They were just ignorant. Look just how far Flash has come! Flash is ubiquitous.

Learning Flash (and other aspects of design) was one of my best decisions! It has created 99% of my portfolio. :)

So just do it! But also learn ActionScript if you want to get the most out of it.

..I mean really fast ;)

I think that Flash just doesn’t interest me for some reason. I know that I need to know how to use it, but the whole process seems so mundane. (sigh)

i rebuilt my whole site using flash, and actionscript 3 is some powerful stuff, any way i also design my logo and intro using 3ds max, which is the most intuitive software i have ever used, so im happy to check this off my list

After searching videos I’ve decided to delay learning flash until I understand the ins and outs of Dreamweaver and Photoshop/Illustrator. I have a feeling I really won’t need to add any flash animations to my website unless I get bored which doesn’t happen often…

I’m currently learning to make websites/flash/photoshop everything all in one. I’m basically going to watch tons of videos then try and put my ideas down. I haven’t gotten any flash training videos yet but I’m going to go on a search for as many training videos as I can find as soon as I am done posting this.
