Years of dreaming, alot of saving and quite possibly a little too much planning, but I’m finally doing it!!! Coast to coast: Halifax to Vancouver with stops in Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Jasper!

I always thought I would do this with my friend from college, who likes trains, but in the last two years (after he met his latest boyfriend) he hasn’t bothered to keep in touch—so I’ll have to do it alone or with a boyfriend of my own. But I’m definitely still up for it. I’ve never been to Canada, and I think the train is a marvelous way to actually see the things you’re riding past. As for stops, though, I’ll have to rely on other people’s advice. Are there any places along the rail lines that a traveler definitely must see?
Have travelled across the southern-most parts of the country, from Victoria BC to Sydney NS, by bus, excepting a gap between Toronto and Winnipeg, which I may or may not do on my way home. In either case, though, going across it by train now feels like it would be superfluous.
Really good. Worth doing. Just make sure you have something to do when you can’t see out of the window at night. (I took a laptop and a load of dvds – They have sockets on the train).
Did this with my fiancee at the time, she’s now my wife. Nothing like sitting up in the same seat next to each other, for 3 straight days, to get to know each other. Of course, you get a great way to see a great country as well.
