A Well-Read Dog Head is standing right behind you
I’m counting my upcoming trip to NYC as contributing to this goal. My husband and I were married in mid-September of 2001, and for obvious reasons weren’t able to go to our New York honeymoon.
My wife and I celebrated our fifth anniversary by taking a brief-but-wonderful 2 day/1 night honeymoon in a city we had never been to as a couple.
We spent a day at a state park, hiking a trail through a gorge that ended at the tallest waterfall in the northeast US. We went to an overpriced restaurant and drank some water before leaving and heading to a more reasonably priced cafe. We visited a museum that was showing Rembrandt’s etchings in honor of his 400th birthday this year. We also stopped at a pottery company and toured their production studios.
It doesn’t seem like much, I suppose, but having a couple days away from needy children to take a nice trip really is refreshing, and it was a special time for both of us.
In theory, a week-long honeymoon would have been ideal, but due to financial positions as well as our youngest son being less than a year old, we opted for something simple that didn’t require a bank loan.
Here’s my blog entry
My 5-year anniversary comes up this year, so it seemed like a natural mini-milestone to have a nice second honeymoon . . . particularly since my first honeymoon was quite . . . simple.
I’m sure this is a loooooooong way from becoming a reality. :(
Just not in the budget for quite some time.
For our 10th anniversary, my wife and I rented a red Mustang convertible and drove from Portland up to Anacortes Washington then took the ferry to Victoria B.C.
What a beatuiful place. The tour of Butchart gardens and the butterfly house were my fondest memories.
If we had the money, we would fly out of the city in a moment’s notice. It’s our second year of marriage too so it’d be so nice if we could relive our honeymoon or travel someplace new!
