I made a very simple stenciled tee tonight. Here’s a quickie tutorial for the curious:
I cut stencils out of wax paper (I think it’s used for wrapping raw meat; it comes on a roll like tin foil and saran wrap), iron it on to the material (wax side down), smother the area in fabric paint (using cardboard placed inside the shirt to prevent staining the back), ...

...let dry, peel off wax paper, and iron the image to set it.

Ta-da – my revamped maternity tee!

This has been my favorite method of stenciling since I started experimenting with ‘em in college. With an x-acto knife and some patience, this method works perfectly well for intricate designs as well. Lastly, I’ve gotten quite a few good stencils off stencilry.org (when I get a stencil online, I print it directly onto the non-waxed side of the paper). But, believe it or not, I freehanded this bad boy. 3 weeks ago
