Today already I’ve had like three handfuls of candy corn and some oreos. Do you know how much sugar is in candy corn? A lot.

Well, every time I think I’ve met this goal, I walk past the candy aisle in the store and….poof! There it goes. I need to learn how to exercise restraint better.

On the plus side, this doesn’t happen QUITE as often as before. In general, I don’t eat as much candy at one time as before, and also, I’ve noticed my taste for sweet things overall has gone down.

So, let’s say we’re still working on it. ;)

this is not the real goal 13 months ago

The real goal is probably that I should bring enough snacky foods to work that I don’t need to go scrounging for candy (or else I need to figure out how to eat more at each meal so I’m not consistently starving)

I guess I will have to put away those gummy bears if I hope to have any chance at all…...

the economy 16 months ago

I don’t buy gas, as I don’t have a car. My husband and I tend to eat lots of veggies and specialty meat which already cost about 4 times as much as everything else in the grocery store, so food prices rising haven’t really mattered in our budget either since we’re already used to spending so much.

But I ran upstairs at work today, and candy bars in the vending machine are 95 cents. NINETY FIVE CENTS. That is outrageous. This goal just got easier to accomplish (though I must say, I still bought the dove bar today)

I like nerds. 19 months ago

My cool coworker got me a box of them as a thank you this week.

The good news: the nerds are now gone and can no longer tempt me.

Bad news: Well, they are gone…and certainly not because I gave a bunch of them away…

I've been doing horribly 19 months ago

I let myself buy gummy bears the other night, and of course, I’ve been eating them non stop ever since (I really love gummy bears). My will power has been bad. But last night I was just thinking, “I have to grow some willpower.” Not becuase I have a weight problem, but because having limits is a good thing for yourself, whether it’s candy or TV or whatever. So I decided today that i’m just not going to eat any candy today at work -at all-carrots and water when I want to do something, and so far, I’m not even craving it.

I did well today 20 months ago

I limited myself to only two cookies and stuck to it. I also had a light dinner, baked potato and a smoothie. The smoothie needs to be in my dinner plans more often: gave me a good serving of fruit, filled me up, and satisfied my sweet tooth all at once.

this has been really hard with a few boxes of girl scout cookies in my desk. That’s all I need to say about that.

I should clarify 20 months ago

If we’re talking more than just random candy bowls at work, that is not included. Like today, there were some leftover donuts from a meeting. They had my favorite kind (old fashioned!) I have not had a donut in years. I took the donut because having donuts around is like a special providence; it’s not the same as the “candy” that is always around and I could take every day. That’s what I’m trying to limit. But I believe if if you’re in on a day where someone has brought in bagels, donuts, cookies, etc., I’m so all about taking one of those (note: had there not been an old fashioned donut in the box, I would not have taken any at all).

So I’m not going to have my girl scout cookie dessert today because I had the donut. Yesterday I sort of wanted candy in the afternoon and I had finished my water, but I had another mug of tea instead. Go me!
