Good news! 6 months ago

My brother-in-law just called! He heard on the radio that after the big storm they cancelled the concert and we can take our ticket stubs back to place of sale (Sunrise Records) and get our money back! We also get first crack at tickets again later.

I lifted this from the livenation webpage:

Due to extreme weather conditions, Nickelback’s show at The Molson Amphitheatre on Sunday, August 9th was cancelled by the event organizers in the interest of public safety. Refunds will be made automatically for those who bought tickets over the phone or internet. Those who purchased at a Ticketmaster outlet or from The Molson Amphitheatre box office need to return to point of purchase to refund their tickets. Fans who bought tickets for the August 9th show will be given a special password to purchase advance tickets to a rescheduled date for Nickelback in 2010. Details on this date and how to receive your password will be announced soon!

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

...doesn’t include thunderstorms.

We didn’t exactly get to see Nickelback last night. Just before they were to come on, a HUGE storm raced in from the west and those who weren’t holding umbrellas mini lightning rods were drenched in seconds.

An announcer came on and told us that they’d delay the concert til it stopped storming, so go back to our cars. Most of us evacuated, wading through 4 inches of water in places.

But it was storming like crazy! We convened in my sister’s car on what to do. It was already 9 pm… We could have to wait hours. It had blown in FAST which likely meant it would blow over fast… but it could be big, too.

My sister and her husband had to work the next day and while we had no work obligations, Gabriel was being babysat by my family. I didn’t like the idea of getting home at 4 am, lol.

So we decided to go home. We called my mom and apparently there were even tornado warnings. So she said, anyway.

BUT we did get to see Papa Roach and Hinder. Saving Abel had been first up and in the madness to find a parking spot, we’d missed admission in time to see them.

I don’t like Papa Roach. Apparently they’ve been together since ‘93, which is impressive considering, but I never liked them from Last Resort and I don’t know any of their other songs. The singer (Jacoby Shaddix) really worked hard to get the crowd going but I don’t think we were that interested, despite his best efforts… and he knew it. That’s got to hurt. He got offstage, went touring around between the levels, was screaming and interacting with the crowd – and people were on their feet and cheering – but when Hinder came out… the place went NUTS.

I’d had to pee, so I was in the washroom when Use Me began, but I could hear them going crazy. Tommy had Shawn, and he went up higher on the lawn coz it was too loud. Before that I’d had my hand over his ear with his other ear against my chest and he hadn’t flinched. He was sleeping! (Boobies make good pillows AND good mufflers!)

When I found him, he was near the t-shirt vendors, holding a very cheerful looking Shawn and receiving smiles from just about every woman who passed by him. (Yeah, but if I did that, do you think any guys would smile at me? Nooooooo.)

Anyway, I nursed Shawn standing up (which had a security guard looking at me funny) til he was happy and full, and then we went back to our little patch of lawn where my sister and her husband were. And I do mean little. The lawn was sold out.

From there we were on our feet. Shawn laid his head against my chest and munched on his fist while I pressed my hand over his other ear.

I got to dance to Up All Night and Get Stoned and when Lips of an Angel came on, everybody was screaming like mad. The singer (Austin Winkler)had almost all of us singing along. You could actually hear and feel all of us collectively. It is the song that made them big, after all. Some guys had lighters held up. It was pretty cool.

I learned I have absolutely no idea what pot smells like. I was there in my happy little world, tra la la la la, completely oblivious that there was a guy immediately to our right smoking up til my sister left to get a security guard. I hadn’t smelled it. I still didn’t smell it even when Tommy pointed it out!

We got t-shirts, though. Tommy got the last black Dark Horse tour shirt, too! His mom wanted one, and ironically the black one will be hers. I like the blue and he likes the red!

We had fun… I do wish we’d got to see Nickelback, but we made it home safely with Shawn snoozing the whole way and considering the amount of lightning, that counts for something.

Next tour. :P

TWO WEEKS! 6 months ago

Wow, it’s not long now! I’m so excited! It’s weird, though – my sister, her husband and of course Tommy and I are all going and it’s like I’m the only one of the four of us who is pysched up! Why is that?

I think I should set my “what I’m doing” line to a lyric a day til the 9th…

Glow sticks! Glow sticks! :D

In TO at the Molson Amphitheatre at Ontario Place WITH Hinder, Saving Able and Papa Roach. I’m not so interested with SA and PR, but I really like Hinder.

It is a GREAT place to go – forget the seats, just get admission to the lawn. Not only is the lawn cheapest but unless you’re down front, dead center, I think it’s the best place to be.

This is sadly only my second concert, but amazingly this will be Tommy’s first concert ever. Something I’ve done before him – WOW! Who’d have thought? So far I’m averaging a concert every decade, lol :P (not counting fairs or festivals with live music gigs).

I’M TAKING GLOWSTICKS!!!!!

Love their music…they were here last year but I couldn’t make it. If they come my way again I fully intend to be there.

I saw them in Nashville with Hinder and Hoobastank. They rocked. I suggest everyone go see them at least once.

Nickelback performed before the NASCAR race here in Richmond. We already had tickets for the race, but I had no idea the band was performing until we got there and I saw the signs. They were awesome! I’d love to see them again in a normal concert venue with better acoustics.

[ETA] Just found the entry I wrote shortly after the concert here.
