There he is. He’s all mine now. A quick trip in the Smart car to pick him up and now I own a French horn. I’m not very good, but I sure am excited about it. I’m not ready to join a band yet; maybe I’ll do that in a few months. For now though, I’m happy to just have it to noodle around on.

I faxed over my financing application to my horn dealer this morning, and paid my deposit over the phone. There’s a chance I could have my horn in a matter of days, and it should be here for sure next week at the latest. I AM SO EXCITED.11 months ago

Just before my visit to my parents’ place last weekend, I thought I’d look up just how much a used French horn can cost. A local instrument shop had one listed online for much less than I assumed and I sent my brother the link to see if it seemed in any way viable. “Oh yeah,” he said, “that’s playable. But my friend probably has some for about $400 cheaper at his shop.”

Huh? Awesome.

On my way up island, I picked up said brother and the two potential horns to try out and see if I liked either of them. They were both well used but in pretty good shape, and I ended up picking the cheaper one. I don’t have it yet, but I’m in talks with my brother’s friend to get it on an interest-free finance plan. I’m so happy; I still remembered how to play the solo I did in high school 11 years ago. I can’t wait to have it all wrapped up; playing it actually got me excited about going back to band again someday. 11 months ago

I got bought a Ukulele for my birthday :)
