This turned out to be unexpectedly easy – Apple’s Genius function. I’ve always had eclectic tasts in music, and the radio stations around here are pretty mainstream and conservative – mostly country, top 40, and oldies. The Genius function has done an amazing job of suggesting music I might be interested in. I’ve discovered James Morrison, Ryan Adams, early Kate Bush. I love the Verve but didn’t realize Richard Ashcroft had solo albums. Because I liked Coldplay it recommended Snow Patrol – and so on, and so forth.
I’m also making more an effort to make the local music scene – not the big concerts but the bands at the smaller venues (tonite it was B52s) and the local bands that play outside of restaurants on hot summer nights, or in the local bars. Quality is mixed, but I’m enjoying the vibe …
