Over the past month, it has proven surprisingly easy to stop consuming the flesh of our bristly friends. Most of my friends are vegetarians, so I never really eat meat outside of the house, and my parents have welcomed the opportunity to cook less meat and more macaroni. Since it’s been a full month, and since I don’t foresee a dire craving for bacon in my future, I’m considering this goal achieved.

A few days ago I trying to convince an animal-loving eleven year old friend of mine that poodles and pigs (her least favorite animals) were really not that bad. She finally consented to retract the offending statement (“Poodles are stupid and stupid looking”), and, seeing my opportunity, I followed up with “If you’d give them a chance, you’d see that pigs are just as lovable as dogs. They’re not dirty or smelly, and they’re as smart as a four year old- they can reason and remember and form relationships and everything.”
And she asked a very simple question: “Then why do we eat them?”
And somehow “because they’re tasty” did not seem like a sufficient answer.
My goal is to stop eating pork, it’s unhealthy for me for many reasons. I am planning on and setting the goal that tonight was my last night for pork. I need to start doing what I need to do my goal is to go about 3 months without it and then renew the goal and extend it by alittle bit.
im making some really awesome pork ribs tonight, and i plan on this being my very last pig dinner!! :)
my next step on my gradual path to vegetarianism. must…resist…the call of the carnitas!
