9000 miles on a Honda in 2 months 9 months ago

I spent two months traveling around the country on my 1987 Honda Saber last summer; coming within 50 miles of 9000. Started in Michigan, went out to Philly, down the Skyline/Blue Ridge Highway to North Carolina, through Tenn., down the Mississippi to New Orleans, over to and through Texas, up to Wyoming, and back to Mid-West Michigan via the Upper Peninsula.
I took a sleeping bag, but that fell off somewhere on the BRHW. Took a tent, but used it very little; instead, stayed with people around the country by stopping on the side of the road while they stood there and asked if I could. Then started using a website called couchsurfing.com in Tenn. making the trip absolutely amazing.

My sister and I have this dream that the summer after I finish high school, she and I would go out and drive across the U.S., seeing absolutely everything that is possible to see. Particularly with an emphesis on visiting a lot of small rural towns and getting to know a few people there before hopping back on our bike and heading back out on the road.

I want to do it on a motorcycle, though considering how slowly I’m getting even my freakin’ driver’s license, and the fact that there’s very little way that I’ll ever convince my parents to let me do it, I’ll likely end up having to do it in a car.
But there’s something about motorcycles that I like. It’s a little bit more intiminte. Plus it’ll freak out the rural folks a little more if two girls from out of town came in on motorcycles than it would if they came in a car.

Back in the winter I had fantasies that I would get my license and a touring bike in the spring, and be driving it to the West Coast to a Television Personalities concert in San Francisco by July of this year.

It actually seemed a reasonable goal. Now, I don’t want to toss the goal out, but I will be happy if I get my license this year, take a trip on the east coast next year, and drive across the country…someday.

Didn’t even finish the book. Heck, didn’t even like it. Still want to do this though.
