for a bar and a club…just need to get the money! Can’t wait!

not owning a bar yet.. but getting ther 12 months ago

Well, I don’t have the funds to open a bar yet. But on the bright side I am going to be applying to a bunch of them in the next week. I have been bartending for almost 3 years now. I was ready for a change.. but whatever, I like it.. and I guess all the experience is good for the future when I AM the owner. Busy nightclubs here i come.

Also, I’ve noticed a lot people have said “its not worth doing” .. well let me assure you, its not worth doing if you don’t know what your doing. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT venture into this if you have no experience in the industry. for the most part, that goes for anything. If you’re that serious, you should take business courses and bartend at a busy joint for atleast a year before you even consider getting started. Trust me, the hospitality business is not for everyone. But it is very rewarding to those who love it

with really cheap drinks and relaxed atmosphere. Nothing fancy.

Owning a bar is a nightmare come true. Everything fun dissapates in the first year and everything tedious accelerates. Everyone THINKS they know what YOU should do (I refer to this as “shoulding all over me”). This endever cost me the love of my life, left me drowning in dept, and still I work 16 hours per day, just to keep the doors open.

I’ve been talking to my friends about this goal and it seems like there are a quite few people that I know who also want to do this eventually so I think this might become a reality sometime in the future… I didn’t know I had so many cool friends :)

2 empty bar locations in a midwest small town population 15,000
1 bar has a license, just a building lease and main street location, $75,000 for contents and license;
other bar empty for 20 yrs , like a time warp , old neighborhood bar , would need remodeling but I could own the building for $40,000 + 35,000 repairs, plus I still would need the license from the other $75,000 location,
I know its risky business and its not just a party; but we want to have a bar & grill ( future family business) kids graduating culinary school ) we have been self employed for 20 yrs, so we know it takes hard work; any good advice is appreciated

Owning a bar. 2 years ago

Too much fun for me perhaps. The constant party was great for the first year (except for customers, vendors, liquor commisioners,employees etc…,) but the stresses and lifestyle began to wear on me. I couldn’t see 10 years of the bar taking me anywhere positive. I’m greatful for the good times, but my liver and I are much better off now.

Owning a bar seems like a great idea. I thought so. Then I bought one. It was day after day of unending hassles with the liquor control commission, local law enforcement, the township officials, beer distributors, liquor distributors, BMI and ASCAP, musicians, plumbers, electricians, every employee I ever had, and of course the customers.

In any other business that deals with the public, you have a certain number of assholes. In the bar business, you have assholes + alcohol. Think about that.

Every time you’ve seen something unpleasant in a bar, it was somebody else’s problem – once you own a bar, it’ll be your problem. For instance, who do you think gets to clean up all the puke in the rest rooms? I discovered that bartenders and barmaids are rather reluctant to do it and might just quit on the spot if you insist. So YOU get to clean up the puke – won’t that be fun?

If you are seriously thinking about buying a bar, I strongly suggest you reconsider before you end up losing a small fortune – like I did. But you’ll probably be just as dumb as I was and you’ll have to learn the hard way – like I did. Good luck!
