I also want to learn how to airbrush so I can customize our quads, snowmobiles and helmets.
People doing this are also doing these things:

big steps. got an airbrush and the required supplies for birthday, and an instructional book for x-mas.
I’ve got airbrushes, I have a compressor, I have got a book telling me how to, I just need space and time.
Now that I’ve finished my first motorcycle tank, I think I’d do things a bit differently next time . . . my advice is to actually purchase a book on the topic before you begin. I’ll know better next time.
. . . and then out of the blue, somebody wants me to paint a motorcycle tank. This is nuts. I shouldn’t be doing this. I should try to get out of it, to avoid the embarassment of fucking up this dude’s harley.
So I just bought an iwata revolution CR, and I’m borrowing my buddy’s compressor. It would be nice to know of any tips for a total amateur like myself (links to tutorials, working on a urethane base coat with water-based paints, masking tips, rendering glass.) It would be even nicer if years ago I hadn’t hocked my old airbrush setup to get into photoshop.
With all these factors working against me, saner minds might step back and say “No fuckin’ way!” But what the hell. I figure you don’t get many chances like this in life, so when you do, go for them all!
I found a class offered by a true master!!

I will be forever grateful for this chance!
You can see the difference one class makes.
I finally found someone willing to teach a class! I start the class on March 25th. I’m excited!! This is a picture of a rose I did last month for my daughter’s birthday.
