become a hardcore beatnik, smoke tons of reefer, listen to jazz, hang out in cafes, and master all beatnik slangs/lingo and use it proudly everyday.

I used to be refered to as a hippy (I smoked mad pot, wore tie-dyed grateful dead shirts and patchwork pants everyday, listened to hippy-esque music and was a white girl with dreadlocks.) Then Urban Outfitters mass produced the look (there are almost no real hippies left, so yes, it has become just a “look”.)and made up the whole “hippy chic” thing. Hippy, hippy chic, homeless chic, the bohemian look, boho, et cetera—they’re all related. Now I don’t want to buy into that stupid fashion thing too much. Beatniks are the shit, and I don’t know any but the hippy movement of the sixties owes alot to the beat movement of the fifties… so I figured it would be rad. Also it would be funny if no one could understand what I’m saying.
