We had our first crabbing trip of the year on Sunday. I still don’t like crabs so I opted to sit away from the crab bucket and do some knitting. I think there was something wrong with the crabs as all the ones that got caught were green…yuk. It is so peaceful on the beach at this time of year, hardly any tourists and most of the locals don’t bother venturing any further than the main prom. Had a really nice, chilled out day.

One of the fun things you can do if you live in a seaside town 1 year ago

Last summer one of my friends had some people visit her from London. They wanted to do the whole seaside touristy thing, so we went along the pier and walked along the seafront then went crabbing.
I don’t really like crabs so I spectated and soaked up the sun while they had tried to catch some crabs. It soon got very competitive and was a whole load of fun. A friend of ours who likes to consider himself a hardcore metalhead was having problems with his crabbing technique and threw a marvellous little hissy fit after someone taunted him with the line “you’re not metal, you can’t even catch a crab!”.
When it was time to head home it was decided that we should empty the tub of crabs out onto the walkway and let them race each other and scuttle off back into the sea. Unfortunately my friend took a badly timed step backwards and ended up squashing one of the poor little crabs. He was humanely put down by being hit with a big rock, and laid to rest in the sea.
The day was finished off with a good old BBQ, and is one of my favourite memories from last summer.

We went crabbing again without much success but it was fun anyway. So we just bought some and had a feast. We also attempted our hand at clam digging and high tide defeated us! It was all a good laugh on the last day of the year.

crabbing is a really fun thing to do while you’re on vacation at the beach .. you need to get nets and some traps, or rent them and i don’t think it’s too expensive. also, we always used raw chicken cut into large cubes as bait…crabs really go for it :)
it takes a lot of work, but when u catch one its worth it…they’re very tasty too :)
