i dont know why it took me so long to do this but i finally sent a package to my cousin who is over there now.
I found it easier to order from Amazon and set up an account with www.shipitapo.com that way I could order snacks, movies whatever to the ship it apo address and they forwarded it to my buddies APO address, no questions asked.
My friends recently returned and I must say, they enjoyed movies, snacks, shaving stuff, (good) toilet paper, nice soap etc.
Of course you have to pay to use the ship it apo account, but it was worth it to not have to box stuff up and fill out all the paperwork at the post office.
One of the NCOs who worked for me is back over there. I asked her what she wanted, and she asked for Bath & Body Works stuff for her and the three other females in her unit. I bought a bunch of stuff for them last week. Even on sale, that stuff is expensive! I boxed it up today and will mail it tomorrow.
I went to Iraq with another unit, but about 1/3 my original unit is now in Iraq. I sent two to some of my former co-workers. They were both surprised but pleased with the packages.
The next big project: a friend organized a Girl Scout cookie drive for our original unit, with the goal of buying one box of cookies for each Soldier from our unit there. My civilian co-workers and I bought a few cases to help the cause. They exceeded the goal, and I will help with a packing/shipping party later this month.
