I hate 99% of the crap on the radio, so I am always looking for great new music. Sometimes the stuff I like actually makes its way onto the radio so that is why it is only 99%.
I’m glad to see that Kings of Leon are getting noticed, although I don’t think their new album is better than their last one; it would be really hard to put out two amazing albums back to back. I highly recommend Because of the Times, except for the second track…it’s terrible just skip it, trust me.
Stuff I also recommend: (mostly alternative, but also a little eclectic)
- Fiction Plane
- Cloud Cult
- The Airborne Toxic Event
- The Cinematic Orchestra
- Silver Sun Pickups
- Flobots
- Cat Power
- Brett Dennen
- Datarock
- Hot Chip
- Does It Offend You Yeah
- The Virgins
- The Raconteurs
- Puscifer
- AA Bondy
- Donnie Bravo – Run Away is amazing
- Retard-O-Bot
- Screaming Mechanical Brain
- Foxy Shazam

I just started to listen to Last.fm and it seems like it’s really gonna help me about finding new music!
I’m so happy that I’m gonna discover even more Icelandic and Scandinavian bands and all those oldies, chill out, rock or jazz stuff I may like :)

because I feel I’ve started to pay attention to unfamiliar artist more than before, I’m also more open to new music and actively try out different genres and so on. :) I’ve also already found new bands and artists that I now love very much (to name a few, Soma, Porcupine Tree and my newest finding, Disco Ensemble), so I feel like I’ve completed this goal. Naturally I will continue getting to know more artists and broaden my music knowledge, I still have much to learn. :)

I’ve found some new music again. :)
I discovered Róisín Murphy a couple of weeks ago, she was listed as a similar artist to Sophie Ellis-Bextor (who I very much adore, by the way) at Last.fm so naturally I had to sample her. Well, I was rather impressed so after some pondering I ordered her Overpowered album from Amazon. :D I love it, she has an interesting voice and well, the songs are cool. I think I’d like to try out Goldfrapp now as well, it seems there has been a lot of hype around them lately, or have I just imagined everything?
Just a moment ago I also ordered two albums from a finnish indie pop/rock band called Soma and I’m smitten. This much melancholy won’t probably do much good to me in the long run but damn, if this isn’t just my kind of music then I don’t know what is. Yeah, I’m a depressed and grumpy Finn who listens to music that only makes her even more depressed. :P But omg really, can’t wait to get those CDs. ♥

I’ve been listening to Poets of the Fall a lot lately (especially the past two days since I happened to acquire their latest album, Revolution Roulette), and even though they’re not ‘new’ to me, since I’ve known about them for a very long time and listened to them last year pretty much, I feel as if I’ve somehow rediscovered them now. I can still remember how I couple of years ago thought their music must be very boring because their name sounded so dull. Oh those times. :’D
Howie Day (up there in the picture) is one of the artists I’ve found through Last.fm and ever since I’ve been very fond of his lyrics and songs. He also has a nice, soothing voice, so I usually listen to him when I feel agitated or otherwise stressed. I’m eagerly waiting for some new material from him, he’s been really quite for some time because of a few, hmm, incidents.
I found Hayley Westenra much the same way as Howie Day, I think I was checking similar artists to Sarah Brightman at Last.fm and stumbled upon her artist profile. What intrigued me, I think, was that she has Irish heritage and that she sings Celtic songs (which I’m very fond of), so naturally I wanted to try her out. She has such a beautiful voice, and considering how young she is (20) her vocals are amazing. Very tranquillising.
I found Elefant when I somehow ended up checking out their Lolita video on youtube (when it still worked for me, boo) and getting it stuck in my head. :D I only have one album from them, their latest, I think, but I really like it. It’s… funky in some funny way, a bit different from what I usually listen to, or so it felt at first, but now I’m used to it and I like it. :D

Dum Dii Done
I’ve done so well with this goal lately that I’m marking it done. I will most definitely keep on finding new music and luckily I have many people to do it with! :> It has been so much fun.
Here’s some of my new favourites:
- Collective Soul
- Lapko
- Múm
- Soundgarden
- TOOL
- Weezer
I also have a few songs that I just love from different bands and artists, like Arcade Fire – No Cars Go, Regina Spektor – Fidelity, Nine Inch Nails – The Day the World Went Away, The Kooks – Naive, Interpol – Evil, The Fray – How to save a life, Audioslave – Be Yourself and aKing – Decomposing Lullaby. I’d like to hear more material from these musicians.
So let’s keep the music coming and playing! :)
