how do i breathe thru my diaphragm?

Since I don’t know how to turn two goals into one conjoint goal (e.g. sing better, learn and practice to breath from the diaphgram until it’s natural), I decided to take this off my list as a la ‘give up’ method because ‘sing better’ is a more specific goal, and it’ll probably help more in the long run.
Although let me tell ya… that goal’s not going anywhere great. =P
Sooooooooo worth it because I feel so much more relaxed! I was barely breathing before!

you do have to focus. once you get the hang of it it does get easier.
you probably do it & don’t know it. you know how your belly seems to rise & fall with each breath when you’re relaxed? never really paid attention to it before, did you? it’s sort of like that just a little higher up. it’s a much more relaxed way to breath.
when we breathe with our lungs (like when you’re out of breath from exercise or something), it increases heart rate and can kick in adrenal responses.
when you breathe with your diaphragm, it lowers your heart rate & helps settle you down (very handy if you have panic attacks)
But I am beginning singing lessons shortly and my teacher says we are going to work a lot on my breathing so hopefully that will get me refocused on this goal.
While using my elliptical this morning I remained entirely aware of my breath and it was steady and from the diaphragm. 40min of it. Maybe if the exercise regularly goal is met this will naturally follow. There has been constant improvement but the fact that I find myself still correcting myself tells me it’s not totally accomplished yet. Closer.
All my goals are coming together. I am definitely much more conscious of my breath. This site was making me stay conscious of it for a long time and then I took a break from this site and a lot of other stuff for the holidays b/c I was so caught up in travelling and entertaining. I am happy to say however that I caught myself thinking about my breath quite often even w/o daily support from my online community. I see this migrating lists sometime early in February.
I’ve definitely realized that posture and breath go hand in hand through working consciously on this goal for two weeks now. I definitely feel a difference and it’s really becoming a habit to extend my back fully. Because of this I end up breathing better from my diaphragm. Full extension means full breaths. I am seeing the finish line and am confident that this is a goal that I will accomplish and I am hungering for the day I move it to the done list.
I find that walking and jogging are best practice for this! My body just naturally breathes from the diaphragm whil exercising because it needs the oxygen. I think the exercise goal will definitely assist in the accomplishment of this goal too.
