visit a monastary

My friend and I should finally be able to mark this done! She’s actually going up this weekend without me, since I’m crazy-busy with my new role at work, and honestly I don’t think I can get away until Sept.

But bit by bit I’m getting closer, and we’re more excited than ever!

The same friend who told me she might want to go to one this spring, just emailed me a detailed list of all the ones in the nearby area, complete with those who do spiritual/vocational counseling as well as prices!

I think we will go together, and I’m excited to be even closer to this goal than I originally anticipated when I first wrote it!

Hooray for synchronicity!

...reminded that she has stayed at last year! It was just one night, but she told me how amazing the experience was! We talked for over an hour about its appeal and her motivations for going back to one. She and I might just do so this spring!

I’ve been so attracted to monasteries lately. I don’t know if it’s the simple living, the devoted work, the seeking of deeper connections to self, God, and humanity, or the quiet retreat from a demanding world, but I certainly want to research it more. See if there are any nearby me, see if I wouldn’t be out of place to visit…

Simple life and cooperation. Concentrating their focus on one goal.
Not to mention the super ninja fighting skills.

no, i have always loved gregorian chanting and gothic art and stained glass, am thinking of going to Buckfastleigh in the next 2 weeks when i have some time off, fancy just filling a backpack and going for a wander…

Well they didn’t pray as a community but I got to nose around and walk around the gardens and think some things over. Beautiful view of the city and mountains.

Looks like I’ll be attending a conference that’s hosted by a monastary in February.

I want to take an overnight trip to a monastic community, join in the round of prayers and spend some time in contemplation. I’m pretty flexible in my definition of monastic since I hope to visit the Iona Community this spring. A friend recently visited Lindisfarne, so that is another option.
