Got it  — 2 months ago

I finally bought an electronic drumset so I can practice at home. I really didn’t have much of a choice because we had to move out of our lockout. I just set it up last night so I haven’t had a chance to really play it, but I think it’s going to be an awesome tool.

I’m thinking about getting a small electronic drum set for my bedroom. I have my live kit at a lock out rehearsal studio, but I don’t make the time to go practice. I rehearse with my band a lot, and will get there early to practice, but it’s not routine. I’m wondering if I have a set up at home, if I’d be more into working on my chops and figuring out songs for a cover project we are doing. Target and Best Buys have some cheap sets, but you get what you pay for, so I’m not sure they’d be worth the money. We’ll see. Perhaps I’ll do some looking around today.

So I am a trombone player. I also play other instruments, but trombone is my main passion. I did start grad school this past year, which has been amazing, but I only want to go up from here! get gigs, all that. I will keep you all updated at my hopeful successes!

Looking for the right people  — 1 year ago

It’s just impossible to find people with the right vision
I’ve been in a few bands and the guy I play music with most is just a jerk and he doesn’t take anything seriously.
It makes it harder with all the emo shit going on and no one listens to the stuff that I do now

Why...  — 1 year ago

I play clarinet as an amateur, but hate some of the “amateur attitude” of the people I play with. If I could play better myself, I could perform with better people… (and play cooler music).

I’m sure regular practise is the key … but finding a time when I’m on my own to practise is usually impossible! Enough excuses … it’s time I upped the practise to at least an hour a day – if I ever want to call myself a bassist it’s the least I can do!

Choir rehearsal gives a big boost every few months. Eric will introduce some gleaming nugget of pedagogy that will either make me panic or transform my practicing (or both). Last week was one of those weeks, where something clicked for the whole section - nearly the whole choir - and the results were amazing.

In my quest to accomplish this Thing (being a better musician), my goal is to do MY part to ensure that it wasn’t just a stroke of lightning that will never happen again.
