It’s called equal humans rights. It’s called separation of church and state. I have never gotten a sufficient answer to the question “how does gay marriage threaten homosexual marriage?” And don’t give me any nonsense about “civil unions are ok, but the word ‘marriage’ is for a religious convenant between one man and one woman.” Because guess what – my husband and I are not religious, and no one seems to have a problem with us using the word “marriage” to describe our partnership. I hope that someday the US will wake up and get rid of its legalized homophobia.
Boomer Anne Is having a quiet and peaceful life.
Great video. Jack black plays Jesus.
makemeasandwich hasn't been on 43things in soo long. Wow.
I need to live to see this happen.
Churches will not lose any sort of funding. Marriage of any kind is not actually taught in schools. Don’t play to those fear tactics! They aren’t true. It’s been verified. Vote in favor of equal Constitutional rights. Vote NO on Prop 8!

“Yes on Prop 8”, the one which includes (and misquotes) clips of Mayor Newsom’s speech in 2004.
What is it with their bit about gay mariage being taught in public schools? And churches losing federal funding? What’s that about? That doesn’t happen in Massachusets, where gay marriage has been legal for years. Why would it happen in California?
It sounds like a “gay marriage = evolution = get these satanist liberals out of our schools by voting yes” tactic to me.
And the only churches who would lose any funding are the ones who would discriminate. The same ones who already discriminate because “it’s in the Bible.” I find it very interesting that the only Christian sectors making any noise about this, are the fundamentalists. ;)
This has happened recently in California. The couples who were married in 2004 during Mayor Newsom’s civil disobedience, whose marriages were nearly immediately annuled by Sacramento, sues the state and won. Prop 22 was overturned by the Supreme Court. Same-sex couples can receive marriage licenses here now.
But because Kern County’s auditor-controller is taking an active stand against it, and there’s to be yet another vote to rule on whether to ammend the state constitution, I don’t believe the fight’s over yet.
And then there are another forty-something states to go.
