jsherry1941 (1979)

This movie is a mess. Spielberg’s World War II farce/satire/spoof/action/comedy of a Japanese invasion of Hollywood after Pearl Harbor. There’s too much going on and not much of it makes sense. I’m sure people stoned on drugs would love this one, but I am far too sober to enjoy it. I also think that children might like it (it gets silly and lots of things go boom), but there is a good amount of sexual innuendo.

And that leaves Close Encounters as the last Spielberg flick I need to see (Twilight Zone is not available on DVD) and I can cross this off my list. 6 years ago

jsherryThe Sugarland Express (1974)

Spielberg’s debut studio film is a reasonably solid movie. It features a young Goldie Hawn as a woman who helps her almost ex-husband escape from a pre-release program (prison) to kidnap their child back from the foster home he is in. This leads to a chase across Texas with hundreds of police cars in pursuit.

The movie is decent enough with emphasis on the chase, but little incentive to care about the characters is given. A moderate thumbs up to this one. 6 years ago

jsherryColumbo: Murder by the Book (1971)

Like most episodes of Columbo, this is a mini movie and the third episode from the first season of Columbo. Also like most Columbo movies, this is a good episode but that is the strength of Peter Falk. Nothing here tells me this will be STEVEN SPIELBERG, but he did a solid job here. 6 years ago

Wow! This was a tight television movie, high on tension, high on drama, and complete with a scary villain (the rusted truck).

Remaining:
Twilight Zone: The Movie
1941 (1979)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
The Sugarland Express (1974)

I think I will be able to watch Columbo: Murder by the Book as a Netflix rental since it is in the first season of that show.

I have found out that “Savage” is an unsold Television pilot, so I won’t be watching this one. Probably almost impossible to find.

Something Evil is a television movie, but I don’t expect to be able to find it. So, I’m left with the theatrical films. 6 years ago

jsherryMunich

Finished Munich yesterday. That leaves me with:
Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983)
1941 (1979)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
The Sugarland Express (1974)

And then the TV movies if we’re counting those and if they are all available. 6 years ago
