Go to court and watch a trial

when I was in middle school. The teacher would give me a pass for the afternoon, and I’d walk from school to the courthosue. Very fun!

Definitely worth it!

The frenzy has died down, the helicoptors are gone… and i’ve realized that I don’t really care to hear details about how one man killed 26 prostitutes. I kinda wanted to go before just so I could say I attended the biggest murder trial in Canada. But I don’t think that’s a good enough reason.
Instead maybe I’ll help lobby the government to open more women’s shelters and generally clean up the downtown eastside… so there’s less chance that something this devastating will happen again.

I walk by the Pickton trial every single day. It’s the biggest murder case in Canadian history. A part of me wants to go… but I’m not sure that I could sit through it. I get a sick feeling in my stomach every time I walk by.
It’ll be going on for at least a year so maybe in a few months I’ll consider it.

yesterday i went to court, took some leaflets about justice, and then asked a lawyer if and how i could watch a trial. He told me that even if you technically have the right to do it, it’s very rare that people actually do it. I told him i’m a law student and he explained me where i had to go, what i had to say if i was asked why i was there etc…
But then, i thought of myself, sitting alone, watching people in trouble trying to convince the judges etc and i told myself it would seem like morbid curiosity just to sit there and watch something that’s not my business.
So i didn’t enter.
But i will, someday, maybe with a friend.

I’m a law student, i just HAVE to do it before the end of the school year. But i’m freaking. First, i don’t technically know how it takes place, like where you enter, when you must come, etc. And then, it must be strange, just to see people you don’t know explaining their stories, their private lives etc… But i’m gonna do it someday, i swear !
