Went out to dinner tonight with a few friends from my commuter van. It was an absolute blast.
I live in the most yuppie neighborhood and have been feeling a little lost living in the world of soccer moms. Everyone is white, christian, and obsessed with the color of the paint in their dining rooms. “Not that there is anything wrong with that”
Anyway, I had the most amazing dinner with my new friends. We made sushi and some kind of dumpling and I brought saki and plum wine. (I finally got to use the saki set that gifted to me so many years ago)
It was a blast. There were four of us and we bonded immediately. I got the best massage I have had in a long time too! What a great night!

My son has a stomach bug so we are not going to dinner tomorrow night with some close friends. :( I was really looking forward to seeing them.

Went to see a friend in a play this weekend. She is really quite good. The play was called A Clear Room Called Day. It followed the lives of a set of friends during the uprising of the Nazis in Germany. The content was powerful and occationally over my head. She was occupied at the end of the show, it was late and I was exhausted… so I dashed off with plans to send her a thoughtful email. Not quite a visit but it will have to do for this week.

It is so easy to be distracted by the mechanics of life. I want to be closer to my friends and I think that I need to be much more conscious about it. I think that ensuring that I connect with at least one friend each week will definitely go a long way toward this goal.
