Just bought my ticket today! I’ll be there for my birthday, too. =D I have a friend who goes to school at Tulane & is graduating come May, so this is my last opportunity to go! And at a final price of $305, I had to do it. =)

I’ve never been much of a party animal. Something about Mardi Gras has always seemed to me to be the best of all things fun. When the water washed away New Orleans I thought my chance was lost.

S%1T Happens!

Well ,given the circumstances with J and the battle, the trip to work in America is on hold.
It’s a shame, especilly after all the hard work into gaining the Visa and arranging work with NOLA.
Down but not out.
We’ll see about it this time next year.

One of my best friends recently moved to NOLA. This was the perfect chance to take in the real Mardi Gras. I have to admit that I have never been to a place quite like New Orleans. It is easily the dirtiest city I have ever visited. However, it was also the most laid back experience of my life.
I can’t say that I have ever been to a place with no open container law and allows alcohol pretty much anywhere on the streets.
In many ways I think I had an overblown expectation for the craziness that I would experience. And yet it almost met them.
If you do it, do it with your single friends. I had great people with me. But they were coupled up and I often felt that everyone was afraid to get a little crazy with their significant other present. However, their apprehensiveness only emboldened me. This made for some great stories.
I’ll never forget:
- The porch of the Café Dumonde, Coffee and Beignets
- The guy who claimed to have killed an Asian Transvestite
- Giant Bead Man
- Nearly stealing a beer
- Harassing the kid who lost his wallet
- Drunken conversations with annoyed girls
- Hand Grenades and Hurricanes
- Pat O’Briens
- The Extremist Evangelicals
- Rock n’ Sake Sushi
- King Cakes
- Sleeping on an air mattress w/ no pillow
- Catching beads at the parades and being sealed off from half of the city
- The Mask Incident
- Hand Grenades and Hurricanes
- Harrahs Casino
- Deidra’s K-fed friends trying to get into Jason’s house
- Miles nearly killing at least two people
- Daiquiri shops on every corner
- Our ghost tour and the ridiculously bad tour guide
- The terrorist rain dance
- Ashley’s psychic T-Shirt salesman
- Jason has the tolerance of a cow
- Touchdown Jesus
- Clearing Bourbon Street and Midnight
- Several adventures through the ghetto
- Cooter Browns and Bodem Balls
- Giants upset the Patriots in the Super Bowl
Things I already forget:
- I cannot remember a thing from half of Monday Night! Thanks to the Hurricane.
It was an amazing time.

while on spring break this year with my best friend, we went to mardi gras in new orleans. the experience was extremely humbling. even though the city is obviously trying to put itself back together, people were still able to celebrate and have fun.

I’d like to check this crazy carnival out. There’s one in manchester which would make better sense to check out, but it would propbably rain, so I’d like to go to the New Orleans one. Plus I’d like to wear a cowboy hat for the day – to get into the swing of things…yes, I’d like a picture of me at the Mardi Gras with a cowboy hat on. A nice one too!....
Yeeehaaaaaaaa!

I’ve always wanted to go but never had an opportunity. My friends Duke Mary and Di went a few years ago, but didn’t even think to ask me.
This last spring my work sent me down to Louisiana the sunday before Mardi Gras, but on Fat Tuesday we worked until after the last parades had gone through in the area we were at(out west of Baton Rouge)
A week later I finally made it back into New Orleans and was able to see a little of the city. I’m hoping to come back next year and spend more time there.

After spending 10 days with Hands On New Orleans, I can’t stay away. I’ll be back, for Mardi Gras and for more work.

As a native of southern Alabama, I will be the first to tell you that Mobile, Alabama, is the Mardi Gras elitist who totally had Fat Tuesday on vinyl before Louisiana even heard of it.
This also means that I have been to the Mobile celebration for something like fifteen consecutive years and never once let the good times roll in New Orleans.
