volunteer for habitat for humanity

I’m learning new things every day that might be useful for this goal down the road. I was up till 1:30 last night this morning “mudding” dry wall. And the first few hours it was actually kind of fun! :) After I get off work and get in a short run, I’ll be back at it; we have a lot of dry wall going up in that basement.

I learned a new skill that maybe someday I can use if they put up another Habitat house here locally – cutting and putting up insulation. It was actually kind of fun, and I’m so proud that I was able to do a decent job with getting holes for the electrical boxes in the right place, etc. – I’m not always the most spatially-oriented person. :) We are finishing our basement, so I’ll probably learn a lot of new construction skills before it’s all over.

But I got into a Publicolor event on the 25th of October. It involves painting and renovating public schools. Looking forward to it. But I will only consider this goal complete once I go on a build.

The NYU chapter of HFH is going on a build on the 5th of September. The build is on Atlantic Avenue in NYC. I sent the President of HFH-NYU an email to request my participation. Hope to hear from her soon.

Found a local chapter in my neck of the woods. Hopefully, next week I can get this ball rolling.

I hope to be able to volunteer for my college’s HFH chapter this semester or the next, and hopefully can go on a build during fall/spring break.

I don’t have time to volunteer right now without letting my other responsibilities slip, I did send a donation check today. The time donation will have to come later.

So, I’ve been accepted! Now I just have to figure out the insane bus schedule in order to get myself there and back! I’m hoping to get a vehicle, or money to put towards a vehicle at Xmas! That will make volunteering sooo much easier!

I’m on my way… just have to pass in my application form and see if they’ll accept me – even with my limited free time.

Once when I was 13 my whole youth group volunteered for habitat for humanity we spent 4 months helping build peoples houses. It gave me a great sense of being and it made me really think of how much it really means to all of those people that where getting houses.
