How I did it: I learned how to cross stitch with one of those mini Jayln Disney kits you can get at A.C.Moore and such. They are also on the Jayln website. I believe these kits are best as they are small so they are not overwhelming and they include all of your supplies. Also they designs are cute! Read how I did it… 22 months ago

I think cross stitch (stamped or counted) is probably one of the easiest needle arts to learn. I’ve been stitching on and off for 27 years and I’m continually amazed at how large, beautiful projects come from taking one tiny stitch at a time.
Some will tell you it takes patience. I’m not convinced – I’m probably one of the least patient persons I know. What it does take, I think, is a willingness to focus on a task, even if only for a few minutes at a time. I’ve taught children with ADHD how to cross stitch – even if they could only focus on a few stitches at a time, most of them were able to complete projects in what I considered to be a very reasonable amount of time.
So yes, definitely put this on your list of things to do, either with your life or as a goal for this year. As I tell everyone I meet: This aint’ yer gramma’s cross stitch anymore! :) 2 years ago

I hate to disappoint…though I’m sure there was no baited breath waiting for this. But I kinda wanted to show it off anyway.
This is one of the few things I’ve done (shirts or otherwise) that people actually asked for my interpretation of, which I find interesting. More interesting is the flood of cold war movie imagery that ensued. 4 years ago

I feel as thought I’ve learned cross stitch. Also, even though I never posted a completed photo here or on flickr.
But you don’t need a photo! You’re the supportive 43things, and you love me anyway! (don’t you?) 4 years ago

I’m a little surprised at how easy I’m picking this whole cross stitch thing up, compared to other projects, but perhaps it’s because I have yet to try something more complicated than a swear. 4 years ago

I came across this flickr group this morning and now I have to be able to contribute.
Is this reality kidding me? It is simply too far up my alley for me to be not a part of it. In fact, I’m amazed they were already in my alley and I didn’t hear the party going on.
I have to join this party…I am compelled.
Oh my. What fun. 4 years ago

but definitely worth it! the stitch itself is not difficult and if you buy kits (they come very simple up to very ornate and expensive!) you don’t have to plan on thread, colors, patterns, etc.
i learned cross stitch because needlepoint was becoming too monotonous; first i used a stamped cross stitch kit and then went to counted cross stitch. i’ve made small and medium-sized projects, and have enjoyed them! one day i want to do one of thos old-fashioned projects-i forget what they’re called-that sometimes have the alphabet on them. samplers? anyway, i think it would be fun! 5 years ago

I love to stitch pieces I have created using my favorite photos.
You can learn how to do it too, for free. I’ve created a website just for this purpose. Layden With Stitches. I don’t sell anything on this site. It’s a tutorial on how I create cross stitch designs with image editing and cross stitch software programs (free programs are listed so you won’t have to buy anything). You’ll find my step by step guides, tools, resources, tips, examples, ideas and even some free patterns. You can even have your work displayed in the “Stitcher’s Gallery”. Visit Layden With Stitches to see for yourself.
