Giving it up NOW. 4 months ago

I’m going to not drink caffeinated drinks for 21+ days. We’ll see how it works.

Coffee 9 months ago

I want to give up caffiene entirely.

Still doing the same 11 months ago

Still having <= 1 cup a day…I am just having my morning tea..have been able to give up the rest pretty easily …Starting tomorrow..I am going to drink lemon water + black tea with lemon…I used to love this..I am not having milk tea in the morning this week!!
Its just that milk tea is the only vice for me in the day and I hate giving it up!

Doign better 1 year ago

I hardly had tea on my vacation – I did’nt have any withdrwaal symptoms from caffiene either.
However, I still have almost a cup daily.but no more. I am doing <= 1cups a day right now. Not bad :)

Already had my cup for the day 1 year ago

I just could not resist my early morning tea – had to have it.
Goal is to not have anymore today! Simple goal…shame on me if I can’t even do this.

Giving up caffiene - so tough 1 year ago

I jsut can’t get myself to stop drinking tea. My main reason for quitting it that it seems to hurt my teeth and I end up getting cavities. But I just ahve to quit. Possible substitutes for tea – green tea – atelast once a day shold be ok.
Morning tea is toughest to give up – I can’t seem to boot without it – start drinking lemon water and black tea instead – I was doing this a while back regualrly but gave up unfortunately.
At office – drink decaf/green tea.
Things to do regularly for the next week :
1. Drink lemon water and black tea in the morning
2. In office drink decaf black tea/green tea
3. Vacation for 8 days…just give up cold turkey these 8 days.

Kicked it 2 years ago

I’m considering this goal completed.

Some of the time, I was drinking coffee when I was bored or just needed a break. To fill those times, I now take a walk to the water cooler or drinking fountain.

I still enjoy the smell of fresh coffee but the flavor isn’t that compelling to me any more. (I should confess I had a cup on Friday with milk and sugar and it was rather yummy but not something I’ll look for frequently, let alone everyday. It was a nice pick-me-up, made nicer by the fact it’d been weeks since I’d had a cup.) I still like a nice warm drink in the morning but a single cup of decaf tea (green or black or even herbal) seems to do it for me.

I was motivated to kick coffee partially because of the overwhelming “Cult of the Bean” that has grown up in the US in recent years. I also don’t miss spending so much money on it either. Soda has never had much appeal for me, so cutting out the sugared-fizzy-buzzwater wasn’t even an issue.

slow but will progress 2 years ago

Decided tonight to decrease my intake of caffiene. Each week I will decrease my intake. Do not want to go “cold turkey” so will intake less each week. Am afraid that I will get horrific headaches if I go cold turkey. Goal to be caffiene free by Thanksgiving. Support always needed. MaryCatherine26

Hot Noncaffienated Drink Advice? 2 years ago

I am VERY satisfied with this goal. I’m attributing my recent sense of calm, of smoothness to my lack of caffiene.

I found a brand of decaf green tea that has a bit more punch in the flavor department (Yogi Tea’s Kombuchi.) The other stuff I’d been drinking tasted a bit too much like straw steeped in hot water, which isn’t exactly the best thing to wake up with in the morning.

Regular aerobic exercise seems to have taken care of the arhythmia though, it’s also made me a bit more tired than usual.

I want to investigate other kinds of hot, non-caffienated drinks, like some of them based on grains. I’m VERY tempted to roast some of the malted grain I use for brewing and see if that makes a satisfying beverage. I’m imagining sweet from the maltose, roasty… I’m also curious about drinks I’ve heard of that are based on roasted chicory and dandelion roots. Yes, I confess I’m a back-to-the-earth hippy/survivalist at heart and I’d be EXTREMELY happy if I could actually grow and process at home whatever it is that I drink in the mornings. Any advice or experience?

Mild Arhythmia and General Lassitude 2 years ago

I’ve gone through a couple very rough weeks at work nearly caffiene free. I will often have a cup of decaffienated green tea in the mornings. Twice I’ve broken down and had a cup of decaf coffee and once, today in fact, after a week of overtime, I had a cup of honest-to-goodness coffee.

My heart beats seem irregular but where before, when I was a caffiene fiend, if felt like there was an extra beat, now it feels like my old ticker skips a beat every now and then. I am hoping this will even out a bit once I get more aerobic exercise in my life.

I’m very pleased with the results of this goal so far though. There are difficult times at life and at home but I am experiencing some much less stress. I also find that my hankering for alcohol is greatly curtailed. I can barely work up the desire to drink a pint of my (excellent) homebrew once a week.

I will keep this goal on the list ‘til Thanksgiving but if I haven’t fallen back in the coffee pot by then, I’m going to mark it done.
