this feels, like, totally and completely hopeless.

Obviously there are appropriate times for using ‘like’, but I do tend to use it unconsciously and repetitively as conversational fillers which, quite frankly, makes me sound inarticulate! Sometimes I am aware of myself just about to do it and can stop, but often it comes tumbling out before I realise (just like neglecting to sound my Ts for example!)

Dear god I have no idea how I picked this up but J keeps teasing me about it, saying I am the most unlikely person ever to pepper my conversation with “like”. I am neither chav nor valley girl! It has got to stop! I need to slooooow down as it tends to happen when I have a lot to say and my thoughts run away with me.
fatemax is relaxing :)
i reaaaaaaally want to do this but it’s so hard because ALL my friends say it too. I think it’s just a generation thing. Sometimes i catch it being every other word or something and it’s so annoying :/
Major habit needs to be broken!
sweetem16 has been loving summer weather
i just try to say another word than “like” to express myself. I have worked hard at improving my vocabulary over this past year and I think that I have achieved a much better manner of talking and expressing myself by trying to cancel this word from my daily speech.
veronicaaaaaaaa is totally missin my little love muffin!
For the last couple years I wasn’t in school and really wasn’t doing anything with my life besides working at crap-hole jobs, watching endless hours of mind-numbing tv, and partying every weekend (and unfortunately many weekedays too) I was honestly to this point where I was telling people that I can actually feel myself becoming more and more dumb. I really feel like going back to school changed this a lot and I really don’t catch myself saying “like” all that often anymore and I can’t even remember the last time that one of my friends or family members stopped me midsentence to tell me “wow you just said like about 30 times in that sentence.” (which they used to do all the time by the way) I’ve been reading A LOT more too which I had forgotten how much I liked to do :) I also just got done reading a book called “Made in America- An informal history of the English language in the United States” and maybe just knowing the history of the language and where everyday words originated from helped me a bit too. Oooo that also goes towards my goal of reading more books. So anyway… I feel like I’ve improved enough to cross this off my list :)
Vicky is determined to stay on here this time :)
‘cause I say it alot less than I used to.
Taylor Evans is trying her hardest. =)
I think that I have a rather large vocabulary, ON PAPER, but in real-life conversations I just don’t find the time to consider what I’m saying and find different ways to say it. I find myself saying “Just Kidding” to fix my bytchy mistakes and “What?” to buy myself time. I got to stop!!
Especially for someone who knows proper grammar. It’s so hard to stop though!!
