...so I finished this goal ever ago. Pretty much all I watch is foreign films and documentaries. But I have noticed that the more ‘expose’ type docs I watch, the more distrustful I get of, well, everything. Government bad, credit card companies bad, education systems bad. I am going to begin a new goal of watching informative documentaries as opposed to whistle-blowers and see if it eases my mind a bit.

Melissa B. is a "Newness-seeking Self-improving Tree Hugger" . . . or is she? :)
Some good (or at least interesting) non-U.S. films I’ve seen that come to mind: Amelie, M, Downfall, Das Boot, Life is Beautiful, Harakiri, Talk to Her, The Sea Inside, Run Lola Run, Motorcycle Diaries, City of God, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Battle Royale, Open Your Eyes, The City of Lost Children, All About My Mother, Maria Full of Grace, Dancer in the Dark . . .

Check out a locally-owned video store – Blockbuster is not going to have a very large selection, though they are getting better. For Asian film, check out the reviews on Midnighteye.com. For obscure movie news, Twitchfilm.com is great.

I also love home grown indi films (ie: aussie stuff), I reccomend Rage at Placid Lake, Amy, and My mother Frank if you want to ease into it, if not, I reccomend Romper Stomper, Two Hands or Rabbit Proof Fence.
As for documentrys I love Michael Moore, Morgan Spurlock type stuff, and any journalistic stuff by either Claudia Rowe or Olivia Rousett.

if you’re in the U.S., it’s all about locating your local indie film house and netflix. These two things are the ultimate resources for anyone trying to expand their viewing experiences…

Haha such a funny movie. Although it is not necessarily foreign. It is made in Canada. In Montreal to be specific.
