Everyday, every night;, music, slamming doors, loud junkies in the hallways. Quit frankly, I’m tired of it. So, I’m going to buckle down and prioritize on doing what it takes to help the hubby get the three of us into a house. I can’t take the roaches, I can’t take the shitty apartment manager, and I really want the chance to do my sidewalk art with out being threatened with eviction. Moving into this complex was a massive mistake and I want it to be over.
How to move into a house.
How I did it: Looked around, checked local listings via various real estate publications and craigslist. Made lots and lots of phone calls. I had specific goals for location (less than 10 minutes from school, quiet neighborhood, not close to RR tracks), amenities (room for w/d, dishwasher a must, etc), and expectations (pets okay, reasonable deposit), and I made sure that we found a place where all of these were fulfilled.
The house is twice as big as our old apt, rent is only $100 a month more, there is a fenced in yard, a laundry room, dishwasher, lots of closet space, large bedrooms, hardwood floors...we love it!
Lessons & tips: Set aside a few hours each week to look around, look into every resource possible (local publications, internet, word of mouth).
Make sure you have an idea of what you want. What makes living where you are wonderful? What makes it hard? etc...

is done… we just need to put in a formal written request for a 3-bedroom rental at a house of some kind.
It may not be at the end of this summer, but next year is a distinct possibility.
Just accomplished this within the last two months. It’s so much nicer with space between myself and neighbors, having my own parking spot no one is going to take, and NO STAIRS!!!

1. Move into a duplex, under our current Section 8 public housing agreement—hopefully we can find something decent, even though subsidies are more for apartments, than for houses.
2. Habitat for Humanity. Unfortunately, we do not receive enough income under disability benefits.
Living at college at uni is fantastic. Staying here is fantastic. But it would be really fantastic to go out into a house with a few friends. A lot of other people have done it, and visiting their houses makes this feeling greater.
I live in a 2 bedroom unit with my partner and our 3 kids. I want and need to move into a house, preferably in the country – that would be nice.
my house is SO AWESOME. granted, i’m only renting, but WHAT EVER. i have a 3 bedroom house in a nice neighborhood with HARDWOOD FLOORS and the hottest two car garage you have EVER LAID YOUR DAMN EYES ON.
awwwwwyeah. it’s so hot.
My uncle is a real estate agent, so we really have no excuse for being in an apartment this long. So step one of this process will be to CALL MY UNCLE!
part of that yearning to be a “real grownup”. i want a house somewhere. with my own yard to bitch about needing to mow, and HARDWOOD FLOORS. kthx.
