Worth doing!

I’ve opened my ears to a whole new world of gorgeous sounds, tunes, and melodies.

It takes a long time (and is a continuing process), but it definitely worth it. I adore my iPod and am proud of my iTunes collection!

Best advice:
LAST.FM
music blogs, such as stereogum.com, aurgasm.us, or use hypem.com to see a ton of great music blogs and read them all in the same place
music festivals, cheap or free concerts

be patient, and good luck!

I strongly recommend their shop – used CDs in near-perfect condition, the prices are incredibly cheap/fair and the vibe is nice and cool. :)

Philip Glass  — 8 months ago

This is great music for studying or writing to. I mean, it’s great for listening to anytime, but it’s mostly instrumental, and that’s the only kind of music that I can listen to when I’m trying to write or study. PG is a modern American composer and has written lots of movie scores (The Hours is beautiful. I just downloaded it today), but his other work is really nice also – operas, symphonies, concertos, and movie soundtracks. He’s quite a force. I’ve recently downloaded his violin concerto and am listening to it right now. He has some pretty out-there stuff, also. Give his opera Einstein at the Beach a listen for some really fun, fascinating combinations.

Progress  — 8 months ago

In the past few months I’ve determined that Fargo has a severely impoverished local music scene. But there have been a few bands that I’ve seen that were worth going to see again. And I’m finding lots of new non-local music that I like. Just learned about Paolo Nutini. I listened to his cd three times today while cleaning the house. Love it!

This is an ongoing effort, me feels! I’ll never know enough good music because it’s just not possible!

Rufus Wainwright - Poses  — 1 year ago

Why’d it take me so long to look into him? I’ve been listening to Poses for the past 48 hours straight. Love it. Substantial and controlled and unexpected. There’s not a formulaic song on the entire album. Every song offers something to sink your teeth into and really savor. It’s funny to say, but I trust Rufus – I mean, I trust that he’s taking the song somewhere I will be delighted to go. I can’t say that for many artists. He’s both talented and competent. An artist I think will be in my iPod most listened to playlist for quite some time.

Toni Price - Sol Power  — 1 year ago

Lovin’ it! Kinda blues-y…and country…and a little bluegrass-y. I’ll try to find a better way to describe her music. It’s just good Texas music. If you like Emmylou Harris, there’s a good chance you’ll like Toni Price.

new found music  — 1 year ago

So, for all you guys trying to figure out who to listen to, here are my latest finds that are incredible:

1- Regina Spektor. Good songs are Baby Jesus, Pound of Flesh, Apres Moi, Poor Little Rich Boy, Sailor Song. (She’s my absolute favorite singer in the world)
2- Bebe. She’s Spanish, really really cool. Good songs are Siempre Me Quedara and Malo
3- Ingrid Michaelson. Awesome songs and singer. Get Die Alone and The Way I Am and Starting Now

Have fun!
