where did i get all this shit? better question is why did i think i’d need this stuff?? do i really still need my favorite flannel from 1995?
No.
No one needs that.

I was forced to do it, but it was worth it. 3 years ago

I had to move from a large but yucky place to a beautiful but smaller place. I think I filled in a lot of the yuckiness of the old place with boxes and boxes of clutter—it was like my clutter fort against the ugliness of the world.

But when I saw my new place and how lovely and zen it was, I no longer felt like I needed all that clutter around me. I didn’t even WANT it in the new space. So I threw out a ton of stuff, shredded and burned a lot of old papers (man that felt great!), sold some things and donated the rest. In the end, I might have eliminated nearly 1/3 to 1/2 of my possessions—a major feat for a clutterbug like me.

Now I feel a lot lighter and a lot less encumbered. A lot more creative. I’d recommend this to anyone.

Don't know that I've done a 4th yet 3 years ago

Still making progress on this. Each week I go through some more stuff and see what I can get rid of – it’s an interesting process. I see time has passed as I sort papers, etc. Things have been accomplished. Some things that mattered a few years ago don’t matter now at all. Weird – there’s a lot of STUFF that seems to amass with each new life change (job, school). Life is full of stuff! Some of which is trash which I can get rid of! Yay! :)

I’m classing this as done. Tidying the hosue for a party was much easier than it has bene in the past.

I’ve just got rid of a box of books which are registerd on Bookcrossing.com to a local Freecycle member who wants them to put in a home educators library.

Someone is sending a SSAE for 4 sim cards too.

I’m going to class this as done once I’ve unpacked the boxes in the cupboard under the stairs, and the boxes from under the dining table.

I did it yesterday as a part of getting ready to move. I have way too many clothes that I don’t wear and appliances that I don’t use, so I got rid of them. It felt really, really good.

JudithKD We aren't giving up on things anymore?

Actually, I intend to toss more than 1/4 of what I own... 4 years ago

but I’m also going to toss this goal. This is really a part of the new “get rid of the camouflage” goal.

Less stuff! Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

This is more a sea change indicator than a success story 4 years ago

But we tore out our old range hood Friday, it went to the dump Sunday. I’ll order the new one today. Also, my DH bought a hydrolic jack, the old one of those went to the dump too. So, we haven’t actually got less stuff, but the old stuff isn’t hanging around anymore, either. So, it’s progress. Yeah!

Went to the 2nd antique store today and... 4 years ago

Stuff is selling. Yeah!!!! (I actually sold 2 more books than non-book items, but that’s okay. I have lots more books than other stuff.)

On the bad side, I have just had my second order and second disaster with titletrader.com . I thought it was a software thing that I’d fixed, but the two times I’ve tried to open the mailing labels that they provide, it blew up. So I closed my account. I’m a bookseller. I’m used to SELLING my books. I’ll give a select few away, but not if I have to get irritated in the process every time. Both times the “customer” was nice enough to send me their addresses privately so I could send the book.
