A lot depends upon the design and materials (not to mention time-frame) that you’ve got. My father and I teamed up to build a simple dorm-style bunk bed for my friend to use over the summer. It wasn’t pretty, but it was functional and it was a fun project.
it wasnt really easy because of the poor quality of the materials – they were all cut in the wrong angle so i had to align the whole thing together.. it looks allright now you cant really tell its not a perfect rectangular once you have the mattress on:)))
...I can’t find one in the stores I like! I would love to build my very own bed in the very own style of me. That would be great. :)
I need a nice headboard and bedframe, and I’d like a trunk for the foot of my bed. I looked at Ikea and Craigslist, and I have also started looking for plans and patterns to do it myself. Woodworking patterns are way too hard for me. And the fabric over plywood headboards on home improvement shows just look cheap to me. So I am looking, waiting, and designing.
but my design/implementation SUCKED! i wanted some kind of rustic, southwestern design so i bought unfinished lumber – like logs, kind of. brought them in the bedroom and had to leave for a week. when i came back the room was just so stinky from the wood. i took the wood out into the backyard where it stayed – and probably still sits today. a few years later went and bought a really nice cherry bedroom set – much nicer!
This was one of my winter projects. I had it completed in a day. I built a platform bed – 2×12’s with a plywood top. The guys at the hardware store cut the lumber.
